50501 Movement

On February 5, the first day of its protests, the 50501 Movement released a joint statement with Political Revolution, a left-wing PAC founded by former supporters of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders’s (I-VT) 2016 presidential campaign. ²

The 50501 Movement has no publicly listed leadership or source of funds as of April 2025. ^{3 4} The organization’s name refers to its intention to lead 50 protests in 50 states as a single movement. ⁴

Background

According to 50501 Movement organizer Kay Evert, the 50501 Movement’s early protests originated from Reddit as “a decentralized rapid response to the anti-democratic and illegal actions of the Trump administration and its plutocratic allies.” ⁵

Evert is a founder and leader of No Voices Unheard, a “partner” of the 50501 Movement. ⁶ According to an interview with Voyage ATL, Evert became known in left-wing activist circles after her political posts on TikTok went viral. When asked by fans how to protest the administration, she began coordinating protest efforts that became the 50501 Movement. Evert refers to the Trump administration as a “fascist system.” ⁷

The 50501 Movement’s first protest launched on February 5, 2025, against President Donald Trump and his administration. The protestors gathered outside numerous state capitol buildings simultaneously with signs and chants. ⁸ On the organization’s subreddit forum, it was claimed that the protests drew 72,000 individuals in 67 protests across 40 states. ⁵

On March 4, another round of protests was held, by which point there was a “loosely nationwide national movement” with local chapters. ⁹

Ideology

On February 5, 2025 the first day of its protests, the 50501 Movement released a joint statement with Political Revolution, a left-wing PAC founded by former supporters of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) 2016 presidential campaign. The statement demanded the resignation of President Donald Trump; “thorough investigations into his appointees,” especially Elon Musk; the repeal of “oppressive executive orders”; the reestablishment of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices in the federal government; and the enforcement of hate speech laws, “including banning displays of Nazi propaganda or salutes.” ²

Protestors at 50501 Movement rallies have also advocated for transgender interests, against Project 2025, ¹⁰ and against President Trump’s immigration policies. ¹¹

In a video post by moderators to its subreddit, the 50501 Movement states the organization “stands for justice,” “liberation,” “and dignity for all people,” and opposes “authoritarianism,” “billionaire rule,” “executive overreach,” “oppression,” “apartheid,” “genocide,” and “occupation.” Despite the U.S.-centric focus of the organization, the video also states that it supports the people of the Palestinian territories, Congo, Ukraine, Sudan, and Myanmar. ¹²

The 50501 Movement describes itself as a “peaceful movement” and states that “violence of any kind will not be tolerated.” It strives to use “diplomacy, mediation, and inclusive decision-making” to achieve its goals. ^{4 13}

Activities

On the 50501 Movement’s website, its “Events” page links to the events page of Political Revolution. ¹⁴ As of April 2025, Political Revolution listed dozens of planned events in mid-April alone located across the United States and primarily targeted at alleged executive overreach by President Donald Trump, including multiple “No Kings” marches, a “No Monarchy in America!” protest, a “Fight for Democracy” protest, and a “Calling All Patriots” rally.” ¹⁵

According to Asra Nomani, a journalist who previously worked at the Wall Street Journal, the 50501 Movement is one of at least 257 left-of-center organizations responsible for organizing #TeslaTakedown protests of Tesla dealerships and vehicles targeted at Trump administration advisor Elon Musk. Nomani was unable to confirm any information about the organization’s funding or leadership in a late March 2025 Twitter thread. ³

Newsweek described the 50501 Movement’s initial protests as “mostly peaceful” but noted “chaos” including protestors trying to illegally enter Arizona’s state capitol building, a protestor allegedly spraying paint on a supporter of President Trump, and one arrest of a protestor in Washington, D.C. Benny Johnson, a conservative commentator, claimed that one protest included “an effigy of President Trump in prison clothes with a noose around his neck.” ¹⁶

The 50501 Movement maintains accounts on Reddit, Discord, Instagram, BlueSky, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, and Mastodon. ¹ As of April 2025, the organization’s subreddit had 278,000 followers; the highest-upvoted post, with over 46,000 upvotes, featured a picture of Musk with the title, “Elon Musk is a Nazi. Upvote this post so when people google Elon Musk is a Nazi, it shows up.” ¹⁷ The organization also maintains 51 smaller subreddits dedicated to its activity in specific states or cities. ¹⁸

In June 2025, the 50501 Movement participated in organizing or supporting protests branded under the “#NoKings” banner, a national day of demonstrations positioned as a defense of democratic norms against Donald Trump. These events were part of a larger mobilization involving over 70 Democratic Party affiliates and allied organizations across at least 19 U.S. states and multiple international locations, according to publicly available event listings on Mobilize.us, a Democratic Party-aligned organizing platform. ^{19 20}

On January 3, 2026, the ANSWER Coalition organized protests across the United States calling on activists to oppose the U.S Military Operation in Venezuela, that occurred the same day, which led to the capture and detention of Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores. According to a post on X (formerly Twitter), the protests were also organized to “oppose U.S. bombings in Venezuela and demand no war on the country.” ²¹ The X post listed several left-of-center organizations and advocacy groups that partnered with the ANSWER Coalition to organize the protests. These included CODEPINK, the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), The People’s Forum, and the 50501 Movement. ²¹

In January 2026, a coalition of organizations and nonprofits organized a protest in New York City titled “No Wars, No Kings, No ICE,” to demonstrate against the Second Trump Administration, U.S Military Action in Venezuela, and operations conducted by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). These included the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) NYC, Rise and Resist, The People’s Forum, Federal Unionists Network, Jewish Voice for Peace NYC, Target Majority, Common Defense, Indivisible Brooklyn, Our Time, 50501 Movement, and the Brooklyn Resisters. Other groups that took part in similar protests in the city around January 2026 include the national DSA organization, the Revolutionary Internationalist Youth from the City University of New York, the International Communist League, Indivisible, and Refuse Fascism. ^{22 23} As of February 2026, 50501 has reportedly organized large anti-ICE demonstrations in Minneapolis. ²⁴
