The Tides Two Rivers Fund is a supporting nonprofit to two other 501(c)(3) nonprofits in the Tides Nexus: the Tides Foundation and the Tides Center. The organization provides asset management and grantmaking services for its “sister” nonprofits, which directly control the Two Rivers Fund. [1]

The Tides Two Rivers Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 2003 in San Francisco, California. [2] As a supporting nonprofit, the Two Rivers Fund is directly controlled by two other nonprofits in the Tides Nexus: the Tides Foundation, the system’s primary pass-through funder; the Tides Center, the system’s fiscal sponsorship nonprofit. [3] However, a separate nonprofit, the Tides Network, has the sole “power to appoint members of the governing body” of TTRF; the Tides Network has a similar arrangement with other nonprofits in the Tides Nexus. [4]
According to its 2018 IRS Form 990 tax filing, the Two Rivers Fund describes its mission as the following: [5]
Tides Two Rivers Fund (TTRF) serves its [tax] exempt function by operating multi-tenant nonprofit centers and providing value-added services to nonprofit tenants to better allow them to accomplish their charitable missions[.] TTRF, along with three other nonprofit organizations, purchased office condominium space at 55 Exchange Place in downtown Manhattan in New York City[.] In its condominium unit, TTRF created a green nonprofit center, called Tides Converge New York (formerly the Thoreau Center for Sustainability),which it continues to operate[.] This facility is aimed at preserving nonprofit tenancy in lower Manhattan, as well as creating stable, quality work space for organizations working for health communities[.]
