    Background

    Missouri Jobs With Justice (MO JWJ) was founded in 2002 to promote labor-union policies within the state as an affiliate of the national Jobs With Justice organization. 2 It operates local organizing committees in St. Charles, St. Louis, and Kansas City, as well as the Mid-Missouri and Springfield-Ozarks regions. 1

    MO JWJ’s executive director is Caitlyn Adams, who replaced founding executive director Lara Granich in 2017. 2 According to the organization’s 2024 tax returns, Adams was listed as spending an average of 24 hours a week working for Missouri Jobs With Justice and an additional 2 hours working for its sister organization Missouri Jobs With Justice Voter Action, for which she received a total of $140,180 in compensation. 3

    Activism

    Missouri Jobs With Justice promotes left-of-center public policies that align with labor union interests.  2 It has supported minimum wage increases, affirmative action, tax increases, paid family leave mandates, and Medicaid expansion, as well as opposition to right-to-work laws, privatization efforts, educational choice, and secret ballots in union-organizing votes.  2

    MO JWJ supports a government-funded universal health care plan in Missouri.  4 Its proposed plan would include coverage for abortions, gender reassignment surgeries, and other controversial procedures. 4

    In June 2025, the U.S. House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee requested information from more than 200 nonprofit organizations that had received federal funding as part of its investigation into whether federal grants to these organizations had ended up encouraging or enabling illegal immigration. 5  MO JWJ was one of more than 600 organizations to sign a letter opposing the committee’s request for information, labeling it as Congress “using unchecked power to chill constitutionally protected activity.” 6

    MO JWJ’s sister organization Missouri Jobs With Justice Voter Action performs left-of-center advocacy and voter mobilization. 7

    Funding

    According to Missouri Jobs With Justice’s (MO JWJ) 2024 tax returns, membership fees accounted for $26,993 of its $5,607,831 in total revenues. 3

    MO JWJ has previously received funding from labor unions and labor union-affiliated entities. These include the International Association of Sheet Metal Air, Rail, and Transportation (SMART) Workers; SEIU Local 1; SEIU Healthcare Illinois and Indiana (SEIU HCII);  International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT); Communications Workers of America (CWA); American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME); International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers (IW) pension plan; and the Amalgamated Charitable Foundation. 8
