Background

The Fuller Project for International Reporting has reported on the alleged connection between gender equality-related issues for women and policy towards abortion access, economic issues, and the environment. The Fuller Project claims to be the “first climate and gender beat of any global nonprofit newsroom,” while also claiming that climate change and gender violence are “inherently linked.” 2 3

The Fuller Project’s partners include Foreign Policy, Nation Media Group, The Guardian (US and UK), TIME, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, USA Today, The Economist’s 1843 Magazine, the Associated Press, The Telegraph, Texas Tribune, Grist, The New Republic, Military Times, Ms. Magazine, Reckon, Zan Times, and Scroll. 5

Funding

In 2023, the Fuller Project’s revenue was $2,826,782, its expenses were $2,965,161, and its total assets were $3,715,606. 6

In 2024, the Ford Foundation gave $450,000 to the Fuller Project. 7

The Gates Foundation, at the time of giving known as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, gave $4,729,448 to the Fuller Project, to be paid out over a 59-month period starting in 2020. 8

The Hopewell Fund, a nonprofit organization managed by Arabella Advisors, gave $21,000 in 2016 and $357,670 in 2017 to the Fuller Project. 9

Humanity United gave $460,000 in 2018, $9,629 in 2019, $300,000 in 2020, $325,000 in 2021, and $520,000 in 2022 to the Fuller Project. 10

The David and Lucile Packard Foundation gave $200,000 in 2020, $50,000 in 2021, and $200,000 in 2022 to the Fuller Project. 11

The Helen Gurley Brown Foundation, at the time known as the Pussycat Foundation, gave $50,000 in 2020, $150,000 in 2021, and $50,000 in 2022 to the Fuller Project. 12

Leadership

As of 2025, Eliza Anyangwe was the editor-in-chief at the Fuller Project. Previously, Anyangwe led the Global Development Professionals Network at The Guardian. She also founded the Nzinga Effect, worked at the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, and established the Amsterdam-based newsroom The Correspondent in 2019. In 2021, she joined CNN to build a reporting team focused on gender equality issues called “As Equals.” 13

Zsuzsanna Lippai is the CEO of the Fuller Project. Lippai was previously employed by the Open Society Foundations for seven years, including as interim director of the Women’s Rights Program. She also founded and led Franz Strategies, a consulting firm. 14

Xanthe Scharff is a co-founder and former CEO of the Fuller Project. As of 2025, Scharff was the managing director of external affairs at the Freedom Fund. Previously, Scharff worked for the Center for Universal Education at the Brookings Institution, the United States Institute of Peace, and Arabella Advisors. Scharff is a member of the board of PhilanthPro. 15

Ana Reyes, a federal district judge notable for blocking a second Trump administration order barring transgender individuals from serving in the military, is a former board member of the Fuller Project. Reyes also previously worked for the Feminist Majority Foundation and volunteered for former President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign, according to Fox News. 16 17 18
