The Arizona Coalition for Change (ACC) is a Black-led nonprofit organization that conducts voter registration and activation and develops young leaders in racial-minority communities in Arizona. It advances the causes of voter, environmental, economic, racial, and youth equal outcomes. 1

Programs

The Arizona Coalition for Change operates the Clean Energy Clear Lungs program promoting the reduction of air pollution in racial minority communities in Arizona. The organization educates, and influences policies that support their positions and leverages the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to optimize rebates and tax credits designed to improve energy efficiency. 1

The organization supports cheap internet connectivity based on the Inflation Reduction Act’s internet access section designed to provide low- or no-cost internet to low-income households. 1

ACC’s Youth Leadership program is designed to recruit, train, develop and place leaders across the state of Arizona who will aid in building civic impact. 1

The organization in 2022 spent $268,402 (21 percent of costs) on voter education and education, $363,965 (28.5 percent) on leadership development, and $290,123 (22.8 percent) on organizing to influence leaders on the issues of voter, environmental, economic, racial, and youth equal outcomes. 2

Impact

The Arizona Coalition for Change claims the registration of over ten thousand racial minority voters in the 2020 election and partnered with left-leaning Mi Familia Vota to win a preliminary injunction to extend the voter registration date in the 2020 election that allowed the registration of 42,000 voters. The organization conducted the Young Black Organizer Project, Justice 2021, and our Youth Democracy Initiative to mobilize communities. 3

ACC is a coalition partner of left-of-center One Arizona, the parent of Wingbeat 88, along with numerous left-of-center identity-based coalitions, including Asian Americans-Native Hawaiians-Pacific Islanders  (AANHPI) for Equity, the Arizona Democracy Resource Center, left-of-center Arizona Center for Empowerment, the Arizona Coalition for Change, Asian Pacific Community in Action, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Arizona, the Black Phoenix Organizing Collective, Central Arizonans for a Sustainable Economy (CASE)Chispa, Corazon, the Fuerte Arts Movement, Instituto Power, the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona Inc.Mi Familia VotaNew American Leaders, the Mountain Park Health Center, the Phoenix Indian Center, PODER in Action, Planned ParenthoodPoder Latinx, the Progress Arizona Institute, Promise Arizona (PAZ), the Protecting Arizona’s Family Coalition, the Puente Human Rights Movement, RAZE, and Voteriders. 4

People

Reginald Bolding and Cymone Bolding are the co-founders of the Arizona Coalition for Change. Cymone was Arizona coalitions director for the Biden-Harris 2020 campaign and helped found Our Voice Our Vote Arizona. Reginald was the House Minority Leader in the Arizona House of Representatives and is currently the principal managing partner of Momentum Ventures Holdings and president and CEO of the National Association of Black Accredited Investors. 7 8

Sena Mohammed is the executive director of ACC. Prior to her appointment, she was chief of staff and civic engagement director. 9
