Background and Demands
Free America is an activist movement founded and organized in 2026 by the Women’s March to advocate against policies supported by the Second Trump administration. The movement’s initial event was staging a “Free America Walkout” on January 20, 2026 to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the Second Trump Administration’s start. The movement claimed to have organized or taken part in over 900 events across the country that day with “tens of thousands” walking out of businesses, schools, and workplaces. The Walkout specifically protested against “ICE raids, military deployments in cities, attacks on transgender rights, and broader threats to democratic norms. 2 Following the initial Walkout, Free America continues to organize or be involved in both national and international events with a page on its website listing previous and upcoming events by Women’s March. 4
On its website, Free America lists a series of demands: these include an end to “MAGA’s purges and power grabs,” “an economy that honors our labor,” affordable “home and health for all,” “control over…reproductive decisions [and] gender-affirming care,” “justice for survivors of gender based violence,” an end to funding “bombs or unilateral invasions to other countries to grow the wealth of corporations and billionaires,” teaching “the full story of our people and our past” in schools, “freedom to move” without borders, “the abolition of ICE,” “care and respect for the planet” through green energy policies, and “a genuine democracy that…puts the people and planet over profit.” 3
