Voices of Florida is a pro-abortion organization formerly known as the Women’s Voices of Southwest Florida Fund. 1
The group says it is dedicated to defending “reproductive freedoms and human rights.” 1
Background
Voices of Florida says it is a “black and queer-led organization dedicated to defending human rights and reproductive freedoms.” 2
It was founded in 2021 as Women’s Voices of Southwest Florida as a response to a proposed abortion restriction in Manatee County, Florida. 2 The organization rebranded as Voices of Florida, saying it wanted to reflect inclusivity and reach across the state of Florida. 2
Between 2024 and 2025, Voices of Florida received $100,000 from the Ford Foundation. 3
Amendment 4 Campaign
Voices of Florida was active in the “Yes on 4” campaign, backing the 2024 campaign for Amendment 4 to enshrine abortion into the state constitution. It was a response to Florida’s law restricting abortions after six weeks, when a heartbeat can be detected. The group was part of a coalition called Floridians Protecting Freedom, which also included larger organizations such as the Planned Parenthood Action Network, the ACLU of Florida, Florida Rising, 1199 SEIU Florida, and the Florida Women’s Freedom Coalition. 4
Voice of Florida Fund said it was the only organization on the executive committee of Floridians Protecting Freedom. 5 The ballot initiative failed to pass, falling short of the supermajority needed for a constitutional amendment under Florida law. 6
Issue Advocacy
Voices of Florida has organized several pro-abortion rallies, drawing more than 100 people. The group led a protest in June 2022 in Sarasota, Florida to protest the U.S. Supreme Court’s overturning of the Roe v. Wade decision. 7 When a draft opinion leaked a month earlier, the group organized a march to protest the pending decision in Bradenton, Florida. 8
The group has lobbied on issues beyond abortion as well. When the Florida legislature considered a bill in 2023 to require the sex on someone’s driver’s license to reflect their natal sex, the organization, then known as Women’s Voices of Southwest Florida, said the bill would create a registry of LGBT people so that the state could attempt to “eradicate” the transgender population. 9
Voices of Florida also criticized “fascists in charge of Florida” for “statewide recognition on college campuses of Charlie Kirk,” the founder of the right-of-center student group, Turning Point USA, following Kirk’s assassination. 10
Voices of Florida is a 501(c)(4) advocacy organization. It has an education arm, the
Voices of Florida Fund, a charitable non-profit. The fund says it is in a fight for equality and equity,” and argued that “abortion is essential healthcare.” 11
The Voices of Florida Fund supports gender reassignment treatments as an “essential component to a person’s right to bodily autonomy.” It also supports illegal immigrants and argues that “no human is illegal.” The fund supports “queer rights” such as same-sex marriage, adoption, and health care. 11
Leadership
Sarah Parker is the executive director and president of Voices of Florida. 6 12 Parker became involved in activism in 2011 during the Occupy Wall Street movement. A resident of North Carolina at the time, she went to Columbia, South Carolina to join the Occupy Columbia movement opposing Confederate flags and Confederate statues. 4
