Justice Environment

Background

Amer co-founded Plus1 Vote, a left-of-center nonprofit environmental activist and get-out-the-vote media organization. It launched on the eve of the 2018 mid-term elections in collaboration with MoveOn.org Political Action. Plus1 Vote Inc. is a 501(c)(4) advocacy nonprofit, while Plus1 Vote America Inc. is a charitable organization. Donations are processed by ActBlue Charities. ²

Under Amer, Plus1 Vote mobilized youth of color to engage in get-out-the-vote activism focused on left-of-center environmental and political causes during the 2018 and 2020 elections. It did so through digital platforms, videos, Uber rides to the polls, and events. Events featured celebrities such as Jane Fonda, Natalie Portman, Taylor Swift, and Bella Hadid; politician Stacey Abrams; former Vice President Al Gore; and U.S. Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Adam Schiff (D-CA). ^{3 4}

In addition to MoveOn.org Political Action, Plus1 Vote’s campaigns were conducted in partnership with the US Climate Strike Coalition ⁵ and the Climate Reality Action Fund. ^{6 2}

Amer has been a guest speaker at the United Nations, TEDx, the U.S. Department of State Bureau of African Affairs, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). ^{7 8}

He has been featured in Asian and American fashion magazines where he advocates for sustainability practices in the fashion industry ⁹ and has written left-of-center opinion pieces on climate change and environmentalism that have been published in Nature, National Geographic, The Hill, the New York Times, and pop culture outlets such as “Crunchyroll.” ^{10 11}

Justice Environment’s logo evokes the graphic style of superhero comics. Amer asserts, “Superheroes offer so much inspiration in terms of how we can all fight for a better world. They have unique super abilities and each of us do too.” ¹²

Clients

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, a Marriott International resort, hired Amer as its Sustainability Champion for July 2024. ¹³ This was done to support the corporation’s efforts to reduce water and energy consumption and to offer a “luxurious yet environmentally conscious experience for quests and the broader community.” ^{14 15}

In partnership with a Marriott International marine biologist, Amer conducted “a series of engaging presentations and activities designed to raise environmental awareness and foster a deep connection with nature.” These included “immersive” talks to guests, the public and students, a tea, luncheon, cocktail hour, and children’s activities. ^{15 16}

According to his LinkedIn and Facebook pages, Amer has been a consultant to the United Nations since 2022. ^{17 7}

Credentials

Prior to launching Justice Environment, Amer co-founded Plus1 Vote, was an expert reviewer of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 2021 report, and served on the Next Generation Advisory Council of the National Parks Conservation Association. ¹⁰ He has a bachelor’s degree in environment science and public policy from Harvard University. ¹⁷
