Greater Georgia Action is a right-of-center organization based in Atlanta that focuses on registering eligible voters in Georgia, as well as educating and mobilizing voters in the state. 1 Former U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) founded the organization and was the chair of the board as of 2024. 1 2
Background
Greater Georgia Action is a conservative organization based in Atlanta that focuses on registering eligible voters in Georgia, as well as educating, and mobilizing voters in the state. 1 Former U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) founded the organization and was the chair of the board as of 2024. 1 2
Greater Georgia awards the “Lawmaker of the Year” award each year. In 2024, the organization gave the award to Georgia state Sen. Greg Dolezal (R-Cumming) for his efforts to promote school choice in the state. 3
From its founding to mid-2024, Greater Georgia managed to register 40,000 voters in the state. For the 2024 election cycle, the organization targeted 180,000 unregistered voters before the October 7 registration deadline to vote in the November election. The organization spent six figures to reach voters and set up a separate get-out-the-vote campaign. 4
Founding
The nonprofit structure of Greater Georgia came from the remnants of former Sen. Kelly Loeffler’s losing 2020 Senate campaign. 5 Loeffler’s net worth is estimated to be more than $800 million. She spent more than $1 million to launch Greater Georgia. 5
In February 2021, Greater Georgia’s first post on the social media platform X, then known as Twitter, said, “Our state is greater when everyone’s voice & everyone’s vote is heard. But in the 2020 elections, too many Georgians felt left out. Things. Must. Change.” 6
Loeffler noted that when she was running to hold her Senate seat in 2020, a seat she lost in a January 2021 runoff to Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), she found right-of-center voters were disengaged in politics. She also said that Democrats were far outpacing Republicans in voter registration. 5
Loeffler wanted to start a voter registration effort for Republicans that could compete with the voter registration effort by Fair Fight, the nonprofit established by two-time gubernatorial candidate former Georgia state Rep. Stacey Abrams (D). When founding the organization, Loeffler estimated there were about two million unregistered potential voters in Georgia, and about half of those were conservative leaning. But she noted Democrats outpaced Republicans in registering new voters by about 7,500 per month. 5
Loeffler said that Democrats have the strong advantage with the “three Ms of politics: money, message and mobilization.” She said her goal is to at least make Republicans competitive. 7
Loeffler said Greater Georgia would reach out to Black, Hispanic and women voters that would be receptive to a conservative message, adding, “we’re going to get outside the comfort zone.” She said the organization would be at festivals, fairs, rodeos, and other non-traditional places for voter registration, as well as using text messages, emails, and social media. 5
In 2022, Loeffler said her group was not allowed to hold an event at an Atlanta high school that was allowing the Stacey Abrams-founded New Georgia Project to hold a voter registration event. 8
In September 2023, Greater Georgia announced it would partner with the to launch “Be the People,” which would work in 80 high schools across the state to encourage voter registration. 9
Loeffler’s husband, Jeff Sprecher, is the chief executive of an Atlanta-based financial giant. 10 Loeffler previously led the cryptocurrency company Bakkt, owned largely by the Atlanta-based Intercontinental Exchange. She left the company in 2019 after Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) appointed her to fill the seat vacated by former U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA). 11 After losing her Senate seat, Loeffler sold her portion of WNBA team Atlanta Dream. 12
Advocacy
Greater Georgia has a trio of initiatives: registering more likely conservative voters, building a network to promote “big tent” proposals, and advocating for conservative electoral policies. 10
The organization also says its focused on a year-round effort for protecting voter integrity, registering more voters, and engaging diverse communities. 2
The group aims at registering voters it believes will support conservative policies of protecting individual liberty, lower inflation, better jobs, educational freedom, public safety, strong national security, and affordable healthcare. 2
The organization says voter outreach “requires sustaining a continuous dialogue—as opposed to the transactional, election-year outreach of the past.” 2
The group also contends that fair, trusted, and accurate elections are “the bedrock of our constitutional republic,” and Georgia voters “deserve to have confidence that their voices are heard when and however they cast their ballot.” The group also says it will serve “as a watchdog for our top elections officials year-round.” 2
