The Management Action Center is the sister organization of The Management Center (TMC), a left-of-center management consulting and training firm. 1 The Management Action Center assists TMC’s engagement with charitable nonprofit organizations and other for-profit organizations. 2

The Management Action Center offers training courses and Election Day training for left-of-center political campaigns. 3 In the 2020 election cycle, The Management Action Center received $52,575 from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) for conference, training, and management consulting fees. 4 In the 2020 election cycle, the organization received payments from the DNC 5 and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) for program fees and staff training. 6

History and Leadership

The Management Action Center was co-founded in 2006 by Jerry Hauser and Peter Lewis to advance and achieve left-of-center policy objectives. 7 Hauser is also the founding CEO of left-of-center management consulting and training firm The Management Center (TMC). 8

In 2020, Hauser left The Management Action Center as CEO and was replaced by Jakada Imani. 9 As of September 2023, Imani is the CEO of The Management Action Center and its sister organization, TMC. 10 Before becoming CEO, Imani was a senior coach at TMC, where he supported clients including Georgia Democratic politician Stacey Abrams (D)’s Fair Fight Action and the California Immigrant Policy Center. He has previously worked at the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights and expressed support for the critical race theory-influenced concepts of racial and economic justice. 11

Activities and Funding

The Management Action Center is the sister organization of The Management Center (TMC), a left-of-center management consulting and training firm. The Management Action Center helps facilitate TMC’s goals to advance the critical race theory-influenced concept of social justice and far-left antiracist and equitable practices. 12 The Management Action Center also supports TMC’s engagement and work with charitable nonprofit organizations. 13

The Management Action Center works with a full range of clients that are not non-profit organizations and offers training to a broader field of organizations. 14

These services include training courses and Election Day training for left-of-center political campaigns. 15 The Management Action Center’s training course is open to managers working for candidate campaigns, ballot measure campaigns, party organizations, independent expenditures, and any organization working towards an Election Day deadline as a part of a left-of-center political campaign. The course content includes how to hire and retain staff, delegation of responsibilities, raising staff performance, creating team culture, and finding time for effective management. 16

In 2019, the Management Action Center contributed $12,108 to Swing Left. 17 The Management Action Center also gave $100,000 to its sister organization, The Management Center, in 2016. 18

Funding

The Management Action Center receives funding from program and service fees. 19

In the 2022 election cycle, The Management Action Center received $52,575 from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) for conference, training, and management consulting fees. 20 In the 2020 election cycle, Management Action Center received $49,750 from the DNC 21 and $6,017 from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) for program fees and staff training. 22

In 2021, the Management Action Center received $716,624 of cash donations, royalties, and cash reimbursements from its sister organization, the Management Center. 23 In 2016, the Management Action Center was paid $102,927 by left-of-center 50CAN to provide leadership development consulting services as an independent contractor. 24
