Contents

NYIC Action has dues-paying members, and it works directly with over 200 organizations and immigration activists to influence voters and politicians dealing with immigration legislation. 2

    Campaigns

Mapping Our Future was NYIC Action’s 2021 redistricting campaign. NYIC Action argues that “Partisan gerrymandering has corrupted New York’s electoral system, giving political parties license to suppress the voting power of minority groups and manipulate legislative districts in their favor.” 3 NYIC supports left-of-center redistricting based on race and immigration status so that minorities in New York will have a greater influence over elections and legislation. 3

    Endorsements

Every year NYIC Action releases a document detailing all the political candidates it endorses. It endorses Democrats because of their stances on left-of-center immigration policy. 4

    2020 Election

In the 2020 election cycle, NYIC Action endorsed the Democratic presidential ticket of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). 4 It also supported the reelection of Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-NY), the first Puerto Rican-born woman to be elected to the House of Representatives. 5

    2024 Election

In the 2024 elections, NYIC Action did not publicly endorse any federal politicians, but it has continued to show opposition to Donald Trump for his immigration-restrictionist stance. It endorsed politicians running for New York state Senate and Assembly. It endorsed Assemblyman Carl Edward Heastie (D-Bronx) who won re-election to continue in office as Speaker of the New York Assembly, 6 and state Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D-Yonkers), who was re-elected President and Majority Leader of the New York State Senate. 7 NYIC Action endorsed these politicians expecting that they would end “State Support for Detention, Deportation and Mass Incarceration.” 8

    New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC)

NYIC Action is controlled and funded by the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC). It supports the same campaigns and objectives as NYIC. 2

    Immigration Status

Both NYIC and NYIC Action advocate in favor of left-of-center immigration legislation that would end deportation, and NYIC advocates an end to federal and state law enforcement working together. Specifically, it advocates that New York State officials create legislation that would “prohibit all state and local government employees from collaborating with federal immigration authorities to facilitate immigration related arrests and detention.” 9 NYIC Action endorses politicians who work to enact supporting legislation. 9

    Immigrant Health

NYIC supports taxpayer-funded health programs for immigrants, regardless of legal status. It claims that immigrants do not receive enough coverage because the taxpayer-funded plans are either too expensive or are not comprehensive enough. NYIC argues that “Everyone deserves access to affordable health care, regardless of immigration [status] […] New York State’s health care safety net is a necessary public investment.” 10 NYIC Action endorses politicians that work to enact supporting legislation. 10
