South Bay People Power (SBPP)
South Bay People Power (SBPP) is a seemingly defunct community activist group in the South Bay area of Los Angeles that was focused on electing far-left to radical-left “progressive” candidates to various levels of the Democratic Party and public office. Through its presence on Facebook, SBPP provided commentary and support for various political issues beyond promoting its favored candidates. These policy positions included support for a California single-payer health care system, overturning the Citizens United Supreme Court decision, increasing the minimum wage, ending conventional fuel usage, and impeaching President Donald Trump during his first administration. The group also took the stance that Israel was engaging in genocide during the conflict in Gaza that began in 2023. 1 2 3

Founding and History
South Bay People Power appears to have been founded in 2016 to promote self-identified “progressive” left-wing candidates in California Assembly district convention delegate positions. However, as of November 2025, the group appears to have become defunct, judging by its social media presence. The group’s last Facebook post was dated May 7, 2024. The group’s description urges followers to vote in the January 2021 Democratic Party elections, and the last slate of delegates for which it published support was dated to 2024. 4 5
Organization Philosophy
South Bay People Power holds many left-of-center positions. It calls for overturning the Citizens United Supreme Court decision, government funding of political campaigns, universal health care through Medicare or a single-payer system, increased funding for government schools at the expense of private schools, fully government-funded tuition at universities, a forcible conversion from conventional fuels to weather-dependent energy, a $15 minimum wage, and ending “mass incarceration” and alleged racial profiling. 3

SBPP supports state-level initiatives in California to create a single-payer health care system within the state. 2
Projects and Initiatives
South Bay People Power’s primary activity was to promote and organize on behalf of left-of-center slates of candidates within the Democratic Party, in particular, in California Assembly District 66. The group also promoted various left-of-center policy stances on both the state and federal level, but it is not clear to what degree the group engaged with such issues beyond its social media presence. 4 3
In November of 2024, in the wake of then-Vice President Kamala Harris’s electoral defeat by Donald Trump, South Bay People’s Power was listed as a signatory on a letter calling for then-President Joe Biden and then-U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, to take action regarding immigration and the detention of illegal immigrants before Trump took office. These actions included closing detention centers and releasing those who were detained. 6
Leadership
South Bay People Power’s social media presence does not identify any leader of the group. However, Richard Hyunh, a medical doctor and used that status to argue in favor of universal health care coverage, regularly posted on social media in conjunction with the group and identified as a member. He was elected as a Democratic Party delegate in 2021. 7
