Sister Love Inc. operates various programs to deal with reproductive health issues facing African American women, primarily HIV/AIDS. One of these programs is the Healthy Love Workshop, an educational program where participants receive information about HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention, safer sex practices, sexuality, and reproductive health. 2
In its Policy and Advocacy Program, Sister Love focuses on issues related to HIV/AIDS prevention treatment and care, sexual reproduction, and health disparities. 3 Sister Love Inc. also has a branch in South Africa called Sister Love International that runs the Innovative Strategies for Those At Risk Seeking High Impact Prevention and PrEP Program (also known as iSTARSHIPP). iSTARSHIPP is a Dreams Innovation Challenge project funded by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), a five-year commitment by the U.S. government that works towards reducing HIV infections among high-risk persons in South Africa. 4
Sister Love Inc. is partnered with various left-of-center organizations such as the Ford Foundation, 5 one of the largest foundations in the United States that has given a great deal of money to left-of-center organizations since its founding. 6 Sister Love Inc. is also partnered with Family Health International (or FHI 360), 5 a left-of-center international nonprofit that works on left-progressive gender-related social policy, economic development projects, environmental issues, juvenile justice programs, and other projects. 7 The organization is also partnered with NEO Philanthropy 5 (formerly Public Interest Projects), a New York based fiscal clearinghouse for left-of-center causes. It serves as a vehicle for left-of-center foundations to sponsor various liberal projects, pool-resources, and host donor advised funds. 8
Dazon Dixon Diallo founded Sister Love, Inc. as a volunteer organization in 1989 to provide information to African-American women in Atlanta, Georgia, while also working at the Feminist Women’s Health Center in Atlanta. 9 Diallo is a member of various organizations such as the Women-At-Risk Subcommittee, UNFPA Global Advisory Council, the Scientific Advisory Group of the HIV Prevention Trials Network, the Women’s Research Initiative, and is a founding member of Sister Song Reproductive Justice Collective. She is the creator and convener of the WomenNOW! Summit and the Prevention Options for Women at Risk -PoWaR-Partnership (formerly known as US Women & PrEP Working Group). Diallo graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a master’s degree in public health and from Spelman College with a bachelor’s degree. 10
