The ParentsTogether Foundation is a left-of-center organization that publishes on various topics that affect families and children 1 such as voting as a family, parenting styles, parental tool kits, pumping breastmilk at the workplace, 2 and fentanyl deaths among teens. 3

Activities

The ParentsTogether Foundation organized a demonstration outside of the U.S Capitol on December 13, 2021 in support of the child tax credit portion of the proposed Build Back Better bill. The foundation was advocating for renewal of the child tax credit that provided monthly checks to millions of families in the previous year, which was expanded temporarily in 2021 under the American Rescue Plan Act in March 2021. The legislation would have made the existing $2,000 credit per child more generous, with up to $3,600 per child under age 6 and $3,000 per child ages 6 through 17. This expansion ended in December 2021. 4

The foundation circulated a petition against the Trump administration’s policies regarding school lunches, calling them “racist, xenophobic and immoral.” This petition was created using the Action Network, 5 an online tool for left-of-center outlets to organize and circulate petitions for left-of-center causes. 6

The foundation fielded two rounds of research about the internalized narratives and emotions of Americans in relation to family and childrearing, in order to identify successful messaging. From May to July 2022, the foundation used the platform Avalanche to field two rounds of research that included deep listening instruments to a sample of more than 10,000 registered voters nationally. 7

Funding

On July 7, 2022 the ParentsTogether Foundation received funding as part of the Stronger Democracy Award, a $22 million grant competition that was launched in March 2021 8 by Lever for Change, which manages and promotes grant making competitions and has financed more than $1 billion in grants. 9 The award is designed to incentivize reforms in three main areas: policy making, voting and elections, and civic management. The award was also sponsored by the Patchwork Collective, Cipora and Vlado Herman, and Additional Ventures. 10
