Me Too International (styled me too. International) is a left-of-center nonprofit that focuses on anti-sexual-violence advocacy. The group describes itself as opposing “gender-based violence, grounded in Black feminist principles and survivor-led healing and action.” The group maintains toolkits for those who have been affected by sexual violence.  1  2

In 2024, the left-of-center Ford Foundation announced a $3,515,000 grant to Me Too International awarded under the Ford Foundation’s “Gender, Racial, and Ethnic Justice” program. The grant was to be paid out from 2024 through 2029.  3

Background

Me Too International is a left-of-center advocacy nonprofit that claims to be focused on “gender-based violence, grounded in Black feminist principles and survivor-led healing and action.” The group claims that its work seeks to transform “repressive systems, narratives, and cultures.”  1

Tarana Burke, a co-founder of the group, claims credit for founding the “me too” movement in 2006. In 2017, the social media tag “#metoo” would gain international prominence. Although the group claims to be open to helping all individuals who have suffered sexual violence, it specifically lists “young people, queer, trans, the disabled, Black women and girls, and all communities of color,” as special focuses.  4

Members of the group’s “Disrupters Council” include U.S Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-MA); Cliff Albright, a co-founder and the executive director of the Black Voters Matter Fund; and Ai-jen Poo, the executive director of Caring Across Generations and president of the National Domestic Workers Alliance.  5

Activities

Me Too International offers resources for those who have suffered sexual violence. One such resource is the “Survivor’s Sanctuary,” a 36-lesson digital course consisting of “modules created by Black, Indigenous, and Brown practitioners that explore creating affirmation practices, breathing exercises, and compassionate self-touch.”  2

Me Too International is also part of the Survivor Justice Network along with the National Women’s Law Center and Justice for Migrant Women. The network “provides space, resources and support to address the impact of sexual violence within racially oppressive systems upon individuals of all gender identities, including cis- and trans- women and men, and gender non-conforming and non-binary communities.”  6
