Global Exchange is a left-of-center nonprofit advocacy group that works on environmental issues and economic policy. As of 2025, Global Exchange runs several advocacy campaigns such as the People’s Movement for Peace and Justice, which focuses on policy related to gun control, immigration, and climate issues. The group also claims to focus on “democratic” political organizing in Central and South America including Brazil, Guatamala, Honduras, and Columbia. 1 2
Activities
Global Exchange has advocated in favor of gun control policies between the United States and Mexico such as increased background checks on sales, a public database of all legal and illegal firearms in the U.S and banning the sale of “assault rifles, .50-caliber rifles, and high-capacity magazines. 3
As of 2025, one of Global Exchange’s primary campaigns was the “People’s Movement for Peace and Justice (PMPJ).” According to the nonprofit’s website, PMPJ is described as a coalition of “Black and Indigenous peoples, migrants, survivors of gun violence, and human rights defenders on both sides of the US/Mexico border impacted by violence, criminalization, inequality, racism and human rights violations.” 4 while further claiming that policy issues such as “immigration, climate change, gun violence, [and] racial discrimination” are connected. 5 Finally, PMPJ claims that is opponents include “neoliberal governments [and] far right movements.” 5
Global Exchange oversees a campaign titled “Justice for Palestine,” which advocates for reaching a ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza as well as imposing an arms embargo on the state of Israel. 6
Global Exchange has also overseen campaigns focused on climate issues. According to its website, countries such as the United States as well as Canada and the European Union, “…owe a debt to the world that must be repaid, including, in part, with the inclusion of technical assistance, financing and/or the transfer of green technologies in international agreements.” 7 Global Exchange has previously partnered with nonprofit groups such as the Trade Justice Education Fund to advocate on climate and environmentalist campaigns. 7
