The Evan and Tracy Segal Family Foundation, not to be confused with the similarly named Segal Family Foundation, is the private grantmaking foundation of former Obama administration official Evan Segal and his wife Tracy Segal. 1

In 2019, the Evan and Tracy Segal Family Foundation announced that it committed to having the majority of its grantmaking go to organizations in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. In addition to funding social programs, it funds organizations that advocate gun control and left-of-center women’s issues, ethnic-minority issues, and economic policies. 2

Background

Founded in 2006, the Evan and Tracy Segal Family Foundation is the private family foundation of businessman Evan Segal, who would later serve in the Obama administration as Chief Financial Officer of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and his wife Tracy Segal. 3 The foundation makes grants in what it claims represents the Jewish values of kehilla, tzedek, and tikkun olam. 4

It has also made grants to Jewish-based and social program-based community organizations, including the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh, the National Council of Jewish Women Pittsburgh, the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, and No Kid Hungry. 5

In January 2022, The Forbes Funds announced a partnership with the Evan and Tracy Segal Family Foundation to create a program called the “Emerging Directors of Development.” The program was created to recruit and train ethnic minorities in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area in preparation for employment in the nonprofit development and fundraising field. It also announced it would partner with local nonprofits to offer direct hires of program participants and as a diversity initiative to increase the employment rates of ethnic minorities by local nonprofits. 6
