EarthX is an international environmental organization dedicated to educating and inspiring people and organizations to act towards an environmentalist-aligned future. The nonprofit is affiliated with the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Background

EarthX formerly known as Earth Day Texas was founded in 2010 by Trammell S. Crow. 1 Earthx is a nonprofit environmental organization with a mission to educate and motivate individuals and institutions to contribute towards an environmentalist-aligned future. 2

The group launched a channel called EarthX TV in September 2020. EarthX TV is 24/7, international television network that promotes environmental topics such as biodiversity, climate challenges, sustainability, and community. 3

The nonprofit also organizes EarthX EXPO, an event that brings together environmentalist organizations, government agencies, speakers, and experts to discuss environmentalist policy and living. 4 Keynote speakers at EarthX EXPO include advocate of “conservative clean energy solutions” Jay Faison and former Obama administration official and left-of-center political activist Van Jones. 5

Leadership

Trammell S. Crow is the founder of EarthX. Trammell also holds positions on the board of directors for environmental advocacy groups like ConservAmerica, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, and the American Renewable Energy Institute. 6

Praveen Varghese holds the role of chief technology officer at EarthX. He initially joined the organization in 2016 as the senior director of Salesforce and IT, subsequently taking on various positions including vice president of information technology and executive vice president. 7

Sidney Thurston is the director for global science and technology at EarthX. He has over 25 years of experience working at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. 8

Melinda Garde took on the role of director of corporate and public engagement at EarthX in June 2023. Prior to this, she worked as the community engagement, events, and volunteer manager at EarthX for a duration of three years. 9

Funding

In 2022, the Discovery Research K-12 program of the National Science Foundation donated $3,770,442 to EarthX to facilitate the integration of Earth-science content into high school biology, chemistry, and physics courses in Baltimore City Public Schools. 10

Coalitions

EarthX is a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, a multi-national environmentalist coalition of governments, NGOs, corporations, and other organizations dedicated to global conservation efforts. 11
