Trammell S. Crow is the son of Dallas, Texas-area real estate mogul Trammell Crow and Margaret Crow. An environmentalist, he founded Earth Day Texas – now known as EarthX – and reportedly has facilitated meetings between liberal environmentalists and key members of the Trump administration. 1

Politically, Crow identifies as a Republican. He donated to both former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s and President Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaigns. 2

He sits on a number of boards for environmental activist organizations. 3 He also was until 2019 the president of the Trammell and Margaret Crow Museum of Asian Art, named for his parents and which included over 1,000 works of Asian Art collected by Crow’s parents. 4

Early Life

Crow was raised by his namesake, Trammell Crow, a billionaire real estate developer based in the Dallas, Texas area who died in 2009. He graduated from Yale before launching an independent real estate career. 5

Career

Crow’s career began by leasing warehouses in Denver and Houston. He eventually ran Trade Mart businesses and developed major Dallas-area real estate projects. 6 His international work expanded to New Zealand in 2018 as he and two business partners launched a series of construction projects. 7

Crow is president of the Crow Family Foundation. In 2019, the Foundation gave to the Trammell & Margaret Crow Museum of Asian Art as well as $23 million to the University of Texas at Dallas. 8

Political Activism

Crow is a longtime environmentalist and the founder of Earth Day Texas, now known as EarthX. He is also a donor to socially liberal Republican groups like the Log Cabin Republicans. 9

Crow founded Earth Day Texas in 2011. EarthX drew over 130,000 people in 2018. Crow has used this influence to make inroads with the Trump administration, especially with former Texas governor and Trump administration Secretary of the Department of Energy Rick Perry. 10

Crow’s environmental activism also includes support for the left-leaning League of Conservation Voters and other groups. He is on the Board of Directors for the American Renewable Energy Institute, the Environmental Defense Fund Texas, ConservAmerica, and other groups. 11 Crow co-founded Texas Business for Clean Air and Texans for Clean Water. 12

In 2018, he wrote an essay for The George W. Bush Institute about his environmental activism. 13

Crow’s other political activism includes, but is not limited to, supporting the Log Cabin Republicans. 14 He spoke at an event with the LGBT group’s leaders in 2005, donated $60,000 for one of the group’s 1998 events, and otherwise has been a longtime financial supporter. 1516

Crow’s personal website also cites his support for “family planning,” education, religious tolerance, and other causes. 17
