Democracy for All 2021 Action is a left-of-center advocacy group that lobbies for automatic and same-day voter registration and opposes voter ID laws, among other policies. A coalition of over twenty organizations, including Demos and Color of Change, the group is a project of the Sixteen Thirty Fund, a 501(c)(4) advocacy group created and managed by the Washington, DC-based consulting firm Arabella Advisors.
Since Democracy for All 2021 Action is a fiscally-sponsored project, it does not need to file as an individual group with the IRS, allowing it to keep the names of its board members and its financial information private. Critics have pointed out that this preserves the anonymity of its sources of funding, something commonly referred to in the media as “dark money.”
Deirdre Schifeling is the founder and campaign director of Democracy for All 2021 Action. She is also a leader of the Fight Back Table, a coalition of liberal groups that, in September 2020, announced it was preparing for “mass public unrest” following the presidential election in November, should the outcome be unclear or should Donald Trump not accept a Joe Biden victory.
