Black Man Lab is a left-of-center community outreach group that claims to promote “socially conscious” advocacy through fellowship and mentorships for African-American youths. 1
The group was founded in 2020 as a development program for African-American youths in the Atlanta area. In 2022, it received a $110,000 grant from the Stacey Abrams-linked left-of-center non-profit New Georgia Project for the purpose of “community outreach.” 2 1

According to its 2023 tax filing, Black Man Lab reported $136,436 in revenue, of which the entire amount stemmed from grants and contributions. It had $259,619 in expenses, of which $85,044 went to staff salaries and compensation, $43,772 went to professional fees, and $94,494 went to program expenses. It had a loss of $123,183 and ended the year with $251,154 in net assets. 3

The website lists the Atlanta-based Davis Bozeman Law Firm as a financial sponsor of the organization, along with Samora Sobukwe, an Atlanta-based youth business and financial literacy trainer. 5 6

Activities
Black Man Lab claims to organize and manage community projects and programs to engage African-American youth in local communities. This includes a weekly panel discussing certain topics such as masculinity and local issues. 2
The organization also claims to oversee several mentorship and fellowship programs meant to develop and promote “socially conscious” content that promotes social justice. 1

Marty Monegain is the executive director of Black Man Lab, a position he has held since 2022. 8
