    Background

Sole Strategies was launched in September 2020 by Zee Cohen-Sanchez, a Democratic Party political operative. According to an interview with Cohen-Sanchez in the Story Exchange, the firm was first established from her recreational vehicle in a trailer park in Portland, Oregon, where she was living in at the time. 2 3

Sole Strategies took on its first cohort of clients in November 2020 and in 2021 assisted with its first client to win an election, Nadarius Clark, who was then running to represent District 79 in the Virginia House of Delegates. Later that year, the firm expanded, employing 30 full-time staffers, who unionized under the Communication Workers of America Local 1101 in 2022. 2

As of April 2026, Sole Strategies’ website listed an office address in Washington, D.C., but noted that it was solely for “mail purposes” and that the firm was principally based in “rural Nevada.” 4

    Activities

Sole Strategies offers a variety of consulting and campaign services to its clients in areas such as strategy, graphic design, website development, public relations, field operations, polling, and direct mail. 4

Additionally, Sole Strategies maintains a political campaigning application, Sole App, which offers its users real-time location tracking for canvassers, and other analytic campaign data such as number of doors knocked, responses, canvasser-performance, and canvasser-location history. 5

    Involvement with Common Sense America

In September 2024, the Associated Press published a report discussing the connection between Sole Strategies and one of its clients, Common Sense America, in a story about a group, Patriots Run Project, that appeared to have recruited nominally right-of-center candidates in key electoral races to run on third-party or independent tickets to weaken the electoral viability of Republican candidates. 1

According to the article, after these candidates, all of whom were retired, disabled, or both, were recruited through Facebook advertisements, Democratic Party-aligned organizations were involved in the collection of the necessary signatures for them to be put on the ballot, particularly Common Sense America. Common Sense America was a firm registered to Lisa Cohen, whom the AP reported “appears” to be the mother of Sole Strategies founder, Zee Cohen-Sanchez. 1

When contacted by the Associated Press, Cohen-Sanchez noted that the firm works “very closely with Common Sense America.”  1

    Clients

Clients of Sole Strategies have included a variety of Democratic Party candidates and aligned or affiliated organizations such as the Riverside County Democratic Party, Tom Keen, Indiana Conservation Voters, Yusef Salaam, Make It Work Nevada, Forward Montana, Florida Rising, Lynn Rogers, Kenny Boddye, Marty Martinez, Margaret Angela Franklin, Debra Gardner, Defend Our Courts, TeamCivX, Daniel Carlino, Nadarius Clark, Rank the Vote New York City, Jharrett Bryantt, SWOP Behind Bars, Flavors Hook Oregon Kids, Annessa Hartman, and the Ohio Project. 4

    Leadership

As of 2026, Zee Cohen-Sanchez was serving as founder and executive director of Sole Strategies. Previously, she worked on the 2016 presidential campaign of Sen. Bernie Sanders and for the field program of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). Additionally, Cohen-Sanchez created and as of 2026 was a lead organizer of the Unfuck America Tour, a project to leverage left-of-center social media influencers at events on college campuses to counter the influence of the right-of-center advocacy group Turning Point USA. Due to her connection with the Tour, she garnered criticism from social media influencer Peyton Vanest, who accused her of behaving in a racist manner towards Black influencers during a video livestream. 6 7 8 9 10
