Paul E. Singer is a billionaire hedge fund manager who is also the founder, president, and co-CEO of Elliott Management. Singer, who is a major donor to Republican political candidates,1 right-of-center policy organizations, and pro-Israel causes,2 is also the president of the Paul E. Singer Foundation, former president of the Singer Family Charitable Foundation, a cofounder of Start-Up Nation Central, and the chair emeritus of the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research.3

Career
Paul E. Singer started his career as a real estate attorney at the investment bank Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. Singer went on to found the hedge fund firm Elliott Management in 1977, of which he is the president and co-CEO as of 2025. Singer would also move towards activist investing and distressed debt investing after the 1987 stock market crash.5
Singer holds a degree in psychology from the University of Rochester and a J.D. from Harvard University.5

Paul E. Singer is a major Republican political donor, who in 2024 contributed millions of dollars to Republican super PACs. Singer’s largest 2024 donations were made to the Senate Leadership Fund ($25 million), the Congressional Leadership Fund ($12 million), and Make America Great Again Inc. ($5 million).6
In 2024, Paul E. Singer donated exclusively to Republican candidates for seats in the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. Singer also donated to the campaign of President Donald Trump (R) in 2024.7

LGBT Activism
Singer has a gay son and has been a vocal conservative supporter of gay interests and recognition of same-sex marriage. In 2011, Singer urged Republican New York state legislators to support the passage of same-sex marriage legislation. In 2012, Singer established the American Unity PAC, a super PAC for Republican donors who supported same-sex marriage, with an initial donation of $1 million. In 2013, Singer established the American Unity Fund, an adjacent 501(c)(4) nonprofit advocacy and lobbying organization.8 The American Unity Fund raised over $3 million in its first year.10
