Ian Fuller is a strategy consultant and the co-founder and CEO of Westfuller, a consulting from that provides strategic management services to left-of-center nonprofit organizations. As of 2024, Fuller sat on boards and committees of a number of prominent left-of-center organizations, such as the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, ImpactAssets, the Marguerite Casey Foundation, and Color of Change.
Education and Early Career
Fuller was awarded a bachelor’s degree in business and political Economy from the Hong Kong University of Science and, and was awarded a master’s degree through a joint program with Hong Kong University and New York University (NYU). 1
After graduating, Fuller worked as a program analyst at the United Nations Population Fund from 2001 to 2003. He worked as a wealth management advisor at investment bank Merrill Lynch from 2005 to 2009. 1
Activities
In 2011, Fuller co-founded Westfuller, a B Corp consulting firm that provides management strategies and other financial and programming advice to left-of-center nonprofits. It uses managerial lessons from the for-profit financial and consulting industries to help political groups. He has worked as its chief executive officer since its founding. 1 2
In his bios on ImpactAssets and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Fuller is described as an “active investor in high-growth, BIPOC-led managers and businesses,” with a commitment to the left-of-center concept of corporate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). He argues that “intentional financial systems” can lead to “a flourishing democracy,” and implies that America does not yet have a “true” democracy. 3 2
Leadership
In addition to working as the CEO of Westfuller, Fuller sits on boards and committees of left-of-center nonprofit organizations. From January 2014 through January 2019, Fuller sat on the board member of Resource Generation and was the chair of its finance committee. He was a trustee of the United Nations Association of New York from 2014 to 2019. 4
In January 2023, Fuller was elected the chair of the board of the Marguerite Casey Foundation, a major left-of-center grantmaking foundation, a position he holds as of March 2024. 5 He explains his position as related to his career as both an “activist and finance professional,” and defines Marguerite Casey as a “justice-focused foundation” dedicated to “shifting power and creating an inclusive economy and representative democracy.” 6 He had worked as the treasurer and investment committee chair of the Foundation from May 2021 to December 2022. 4
Fuller is a member of the Investment Committees of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and ImpactAssets. 7 3 He is also the treasurer of the left-of-center racial activism and criminal justice policy group Color of Change. 6 8
Since October 2023, Fuller has also been a member of Young Presidents Organization (YPO), a global leadership organization for chief executive officers and others in leadership positions. 1
Since 2018, Fuller has been a trustee of the Proteus Action League, the 501(c)(4) political advocacy branch of the Proteus Fund, which makes grants to pro-equity nonprofits. 4
