50501 Monterey is the local 50501 Movement chapter for Monterey, California. The 50501 Movement, also known as the FiftyFiftyOne Movement, is a left-of-center protest movement that emerged on the social media website Reddit supporting protests across the U.S. in response to the second election of President Donald Trump. The movement focuses on alleged executive overreach by President Trump as well as the political influence of Tesla founder Elon Musk. Its goals include the removal of President Trump from office and the reinstatement of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies in the federal government. 1
50501 Monterey has organized several protests and rallies since its inception. 50501 Monterey has worked in partnership with Unite Monterey County and Monterey Indivisible, the Monterey, California chapter of The Indivisible Project, a left-of-center 501(c)(4) tax-exempt organization that was established to provide left-of-center voters with a practical guide for the “Resisting the Trump Agenda.” 4 5
Protests organized by 50501 Monterey in partnership with Unite Monterey County and Monterey Indivisible include the “March 4 Democracy,” held in March 2026. The protest, which was centered around protesting the second Trump administration, drew approximately 500 demonstrators. 2
Protests were also organized by 50501 Monterey, alongside Unite Monterey County, Monterey Indivisible, and the Monterey chapter of Veterans for Peace, after the successful military operation in Venezuela that led to the capture of then-Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro. 6
According to a press advisory from the local organizers, the strike against Venezuela was “illegal,” and referred to the capture of Maduro as a “kidnapping.” 6 7
50501 Monterey also helped organize a local No Kings protest in June 2025. No Kings is a left-of-center protest movement that was formed to organize nationwide demonstrations against the policies and executive actions of the second Trump administration. Launched in 2025, the movement operates through the website “nokings.org” and a coalition of approximately 200 partner organizations led by Indivisible and the 50501 Movement. According to local news, approximately 6,000 demonstrators attended the Monterey No Kings protest in June 2025, while the protest in March 2026 drew around 10,000 demonstrators. 12 13
50501 Monterey is listed as a partner organization of Free America, an activist movement founded and organized in 2026 by the Women’s March to oppose the policies of the second Trump administration. 14
On its website, Free America lists a series of demands; these include an end to “MAGA’s purges and power grabs,” “control over…reproductive decisions [and] gender-affirming care,” and the “abolition of ICE.” 15
