Queers Undermining Israeli Terrorism (QUIT) is a left-of-center, anti-Israel group based in the San Francisco Bay Area 1 that promotes increasing support for the “Palestinian solidarity movement” among “queer communities” 1 while opposing what it calls “the violent, repressive and racist regime of Israel.” 2 QUIT supports anti-Israel activism including the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement to delegitimize the State of Israel. 3
Background
According to its website, Queers Undermining Israeli Terrorism’s (QUITs) mission is to increase support for “Palestinian liberation” among “queer” communities in the San Francisco Bay Area 1 as well as to make “queer liberation visible and integral to the local Palestine solidarity movement” through “queer organizing in Palestine and…the Arab world, and to oppose United States colonialism, military intervention, and funding and support for Israeli colonialism.” 1
QUIT opposes what it refers to as “anti-queer measures” and supports “liberation…in this or any oppressive society.” 1 The group does “not want to assimilate in this oppressive and unequal society…[but] radically transform it.” 1
Activism
Queers Undermining Israeli Terrorism (QUIT) advocates an end to “the Israeli occupation of Palestine.” 2 The group also demands ending U.S. military and financial aid to Israel, halting the construction of Jewish “settlements” in “Palestinian Territories,” increased divestment by universities and corporations, and a full boycott of Israeli products. 4 Additionally, it calls for international protection for the Palestinian people,” and the Israeli government to end what it alleges are “racist policies of harassment and exclusion of Palestinians.” 4
QUIT supports the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement, promoting boycotts against companies such as Estee Lauder, Victoria’s Secret, Starbucks, and SodaStream. 5 It also accused Israel of “pink washing,” claiming the country is attempting to brand itself as tolerant in order “to cover up the brutal repression suffered by Palestinians under the Apartheid regime.” 6
Organizing
In June 2024, QUIT and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) Bay Area organized a “No Pride in Genocide” march in protest to the official San Francisco Pride Parade, accusing SF Pride of accepting sponsorship from those “actively involved in the genocide” of Gazans during the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. 7
QUIT organized a “Rise Up For Gaza” march on August 9, 2025 in San Francisco. It was co-sponsored by International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN), CodePink, and Palestinian Feminist Collective, among others. 8
In June 2025, QUIT held an “emergency protest” at the San Francisco Federal Building co-sponsored by about 30 groups, including Al-Awda, JVP Bay Area, A.N.S.W.E.R. and Arab Resource and Organizing Center (AROC) Action. 8
When the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra performed at Davies Symphony Hall with the San Francisco Symphony on March 23, 2025, QUIT organized a “noisy picket line,” with JVP, Bay Area Code Pink, the Party for Socialism and Liberation and others “to expose the orchestra’s role in normalizing genocide and apartheid.” 9
QUIT has also co-sponsored events with Artists Against Apartheid, Palestinian Youth Movement, Vigil4Gaza, Saoirse Huriya, Democratic Socialists of America East Bay, and Oakland Against Genocide. 8
The group previously held a recurrent vigil, “Queers of the Plaza,” at Harvey Milk Plaza to prmote the “liberation of Palestine from Israeli occupation.” 10
