Prosecutors Against Gun Violence (PAGV) is an association of county and city prosecutors who support left-of-center gun control policies. PAGV issues statements supporting restrictive and opposing liberalizing legislative and legal changes to gun laws, and hosts summits for its members to discuss gun policy.

PAGV is a member of Disarm Domestic Violence. ¹

Founding

Prosecutors Against Gun Violence was founded by 50 prosecutors and initially led by co-chairs Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer (D) and Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr. (D). ² At the announcement of the organization’s founding, Vance stated: “For prosecutors, gun violence is not a partisan issue… It’s a public health and safety crisis that claims lives and destabilizes communities in every jurisdiction in America. By coming together to share intelligence and advocate for pragmatic, non-partisan solutions, law enforcement officials can achieve lasting progress on gun violence.” ³

Policy Positions

Prosecutors Against Gun Violence supports gun control regulations including limiting multiple gun sales, tightening federal and state anti-trafficking laws, enhancing inspections of licensed gun dealers, increasing funding for community and youth outreach programs, ending concealed carry, and enacting tighter laws on gun storage. ^{4 5}

PAGV supports mandatory background checks for all gun sales and ownership transfers. In February 2019, PAGV wrote a letter to U.S. Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) in support of the Bipartisan Background Checks Act. ⁶

To reduce the risk and severity of domestic violence, PAGV supports the prohibition of gun ownership and sales to individuals with domestic violence restraining orders. ⁷

PAGV supports a prohibition on downloadable 3D-printed guns. ⁸ In May 2022, PAGV asked credit companies to deny service to vendors who sell parts for “ghost guns,” downloadable guns or guns that can be assembled through ordered parts. ⁹

Mass Shooting Resource Guide for Prosecutors

In Spring 2020, Prosecutors Against Gun Violence released “Mass Shooting Resource For Prosecutors: How to Prevent, Protect, and Prosecute” to guide prosecutors through mass shooting events. The Resource lists numerous organizations for mass shooter response material, which, in addition to PAGV’s partners, includes the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Joyce Foundation, and the Gun Violence Archive. ¹⁰

Members

As of August 2023, Prosecutors Against Gun Violence has 61 members, including numerous left wing and far-left prosecutors elected with funding from George Soros: Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner (D), New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr. (D), St. Louis District Attorney Kimberly Gardner (D), Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon (D), Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez (D), and Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot (D). ^{11 12}

As of August 2023, PAGV is co-chaired by Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein and Bronx County District Attorney Darcel D. Clark (D). ¹³
