International Action Center (IAC)

In January 2024, International Action Center was one of several dozen groups that endorsed the March on Washington for Gaza, an anti-Israel demonstration organized by the American Muslim Task Force for Palestine, Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), and other groups. ^{3 4}

Background

International Action Center is a project of the Solidarity Center located in New York City (not the Solidarity Center connected to the AFL-CIO union federation). ^{5 6} According to the New York address listed on IAC’s website, the Solidarity Center appears to be run by Workers World, a radical “Marxist-Leninist” socialist group that aims to start a revolution in the United States “and around the world.”  ⁷ IAC also reportedly  receives donations through the People’s Rights Fund, which has been promoted by Workers World. ^{8 9}

IAC was founded in 1992 by Ramsey Clark, an anti-war activist and former U.S. Attorney General in the administration of President Lyndon Johnson. ^{1 2}

Activities

International Action Center claims to be a wholly volunteer organization. It opposes the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the imposition of sanctions by the United States onto foreign countries while advocating for “decolonization.” ¹⁰

In February 2024, co-director of the International Action Center Sara Flounders attended a webinar with panelists from the Communist Party USA, Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament, International Manifesto Group, Qiao Collective, China-US Activist Solidarity Project, the Democratic Socialists of America’s (DSA) International Committee’s Anti-War Subcommittee, US Peace Council, and the Black Alliance for Peace. ^{11 12}

In January 2024, International Action Center was one of several dozen groups that endorsed the March on Washington for Gaza, an anti-Israel demonstration organized by the American Muslim Task Force for Palestine, Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), and other groups. ^{3 4} The demonstrators called for an “immediate and permanent” ceasefire between Israel and Gaza, end the United States’ funding of Israel, and holding Israel “accountable” in international court. ¹³
