Bridging Ventures is a left-of-center advocacy organization that has stated that radical change is the only valid approach to environmental policy. 1 Bridging Ventures is fiscally sponsored by the left-of-center environmentalist Windward Fund that is part of the dark money network managed by Arabella Advisors. 2

Bridging Ventures seeks to have one billion people cut carbon emissions for a 50 percent reduction in total carbon emissions by 2030, to limit or halt all mining, and to link the environment to development, justice issues, health, and equality. Bridging Ventures has worked with left-of-center groups and the United Nations on environmental policy. 3

Bridging Ventures has worked with asset management firms seeking commitments to only invest in net-zero greenhouse emission companies, organizations that call on the wealthy to be taxed more and to raise the minimum wage, and a group that organizes strikes and protests to draw attention to left-leaning environmental concerns. 4

History

Bridging Ventures was formed in 2020 as an environmental advocacy organization to bring radical collaboration between businesses, investors, creatives, and movements to redesign the economy and move toward a future that is more environmentally, economically, socially, racially, and politically aligned. 5 Bridging Ventures seeks to connect diverse groups and ideas to establish regenerative ecosystems to move from a consumption-based society to conservation-based society. 6

The left-of-center Windward Fund provides funding and fiscal sponsorship of Bridging Ventures. 7 The Windward Fund is part of the Arabella Advisors-managed “dark money” network and provides grants and fiscal sponsorship to climate-activist organizations. 8

Positions

Bridging Ventures forms alliances and coalitions while supporting campaigns to work on climate issues, health, justice, equality, and citizenship participation. 9 Bridging Ventures advises organizations on establishing regenerative business models and establishing ethical leadership. 10 Bridging Ventures espouses tactical voting; founder Rajiv Joshi encouraged people to vote against British exit from the European Union (Brexit) in 2016. 11

Bridging Ventures established Mission 2020 to promote radical change to cut global emissions in half by 2030 as advised by the United Nations. 12 Bridging Ventures is also a founding partner of Count Us In, a campaign against global warming seeking one billion people to cut carbon emissions in order to get to a worldwide 50 percent reduction. 13

The Global Recovery Collective is a program by Bridging Ventures that seeks to link the climate, development, health, justice, and equality together as considerations for progress. 14 Bridging Ventures works on environmental and labor protections on cobalt mining in the Democratic Republic of Congo and stopping deep sea mining for nickel and manganese. 15

Partnerships

Bridging Ventures has partnered with left-of-center groups such as Amnesty International, Oxfam, Global Witness, 350.org, and Action Aid in fighting global warming. 16 As part of the Count Us In campaign, Bridging Ventures has partnered with the United Nations, the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, Extinction Rebellion, the World Wildlife Fund, the International Olympic Committee, IKEA, HSBC, FIFA, The B Team, and We Mean Business. 17

Previous partnerships with Bridging Ventures included the Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance, an international group of investors with over $4 trillion in assets under management promising to transition portfolios to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. 18 Bridging Ventures partnered with Fridays for Future Global Climate Strike, an organization that organizes protests and strikes to draw attention to left-leaning environmental causes. 19

Bridging Ventures also formerly partnered with left-wing Patriotic Millionaires, a group of high-net worth Americans who insist on being taxed more and demand a highly progressive tax system, increasing the minimum wage, and more equal political representation. 20

Leadership

Rajiv Joshi is the founder of Bridging Ventures and is the associate dean for climate action with The Climate School at Columbia University. 21 In 2014, Joshi served as a founding board member of the We Mean Business coalition where he supported efforts to mobilize corporations to commit to the Paris Climate Agreement. 22 In 2012, Joshi worked as the chief executive officer at the inception of Richard Branson’s The B Team, an organization that encourages businesses to fight global warming and engage in social responsibility. 23 Joshi has supported global campaigns to phase out conventional fuels and encourage investment in climate finance. 24
