Stand Indivisible Arizona (AZ) is a left-of-center advocacy organization and voter mobilization group. It is affiliated with the national group Indivisible (or the Indivisible Project). 1
Stand Indivisible AZ is a member of the Field Team 6 coalition, a Democratic voter mobilization project. 2
Background
Stand Indivisible was founded by Jenni Eisel in 2017 as Stand Indivisible Scottsdale, a left-wing organizing, activism, and voter-education group. The name was later changed to reflect that the group had “voluntarily” become the base of Indivisible’s operations in Arizona. Stand Indivisible AZ said it did this so that it could “leverage the benefits derived from partnering with a large scale national organization” such as making use of its “tools and services created to support affiliated organizations” and participating “in collaborative projects with other Arizona based affiliates of Indivisible.” 1
Activities
Stand Indivisible AZ’s advocacy ranges from public education and voter education to attempting to influence public policy in a left-wing direction. 1 It purports to have a team of “experienced community activists” and over 800 members. It has also participated with other left-of-center groups in the past. Using Indivisible’s national support and its lobbying efforts as well as its local, autonomous activities, Stand Invisible AZ seeks to “defeat the rightwing takeover of the American government and to build an inclusive democracy.” 3
Stand Indivisible AZ offers its members multiple programs for volunteering: voting team, Arizona legislature team, education team, climate change/environment team, elections team, healthcare team, and immigration/asylum seeker team. Volunteers can engage in text messaging, speaking, and letter writing as methods for outreach. 4
While Stand Indivisible AZ claims to be nonpartisan, its official Twitter account frequently retweets strongly anti-Republican content such as a repost of a May 2022 tweet from Indivisible’s account lambasting the GOP’s activities of the last several decades and another from U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) linking U.S. House GOP leadership to “white supremacy” and “anti-semitism.” 5 6 7
Partners
Stand Indivisible AZ lists its partners as Arizona Teacher United, the Black Mothers Forum, Civic Engagement Beyond Voting, Indivisible, the Progressive Turnout Project, the Sierra Club, Save Our Schools (SOS) Arizona, Tomorrow We Vote, and Vote Forward (Vote FWD). According to Field Team 6, Stand Indivisible AZ is one of its partners for its “Register Democrats. Save the World” mission, a nationwide voter mobilization project that was founded to help Democratic candidates win the 2022 midterm elections by registering Democratic voters. 2
