Our American Future Action (OAFA) is the political advocacy arm of the Our American Future Foundation (OAFF), based in Washington, D.C. The two groups share leadership, as well as a mission centered on strengthening the middle class, expanding health care and abortion access, and supporting left-leaning civic engagement, including civic mobilization and election law, monitoring, and turnout. 1  2 3

OAFA focuses on policy advocacy, as well as grantmaking, while the foundation oversees education, training, and leadership development initiatives. OAFA reported $12.6 million in revenue in 2023, with major support coming from OAFF. 4

Activities

Our American Future Action funnels substantial money into electoral and outside-spending efforts that back Democratic-aligned causes and candidates, making large contributions to national party-aligned PACs and outside groups. 5

In 2024, Our American Future Action allocated over $4.5 million to various political action committees and advocacy groups, including $1 million to Senate Majority PAC, a political action committee that supports Democratic candidates running for the U.S. Senate and helps flip Republican-held seats to the Democratic Party; 6 $1 million to the House Majority PAC, a political action committee that supports Democratic candidates running for the U.S. House of Representatives, defends incumbent Democrats, and assists in flipping Republican- held seats to Democratic control; 7 $850,000 to the League of Conservation Voters Victory Fund, a left-of-center independent political committee aligned with environmental advocacy whose primary goal is to elect environmentalist candidates at the federal level and defeat those who oppose climate policy or environmental protection; 8 $250,000 to Indivisible Action, a hybrid PAC (known as a Carey Committee) connected with the broader Indivisible left-of-center movement and is explicitly aligned to fund electoral efforts and support Democratic candidates; 9 and $100,000 to Planned Parenthood Votes North Carolina, a left-leaning pro-abortion political action committee based in Raleigh focused on defending abortion access, electing candidates who support abortion access, and mobilizing voters around those issues. 10  5 3

Financials

Our American Future Action’s funding is heavily dependent on large institutional donors. In 2023, it received a $5 million grant from the Berger Action Fund, a left-of-center advocacy organization funded by Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss. 11 The Berger Action Fund serves as the political and lobbying arm for the Wyss Foundation, which manages his charitable giving and works to expand left-leaning initiatives, particularly in the United States. 12  13 Wyss has drawn controversy as a foreign national funneling significant “dark money” resources into U.S. left-wing policy campaigns and causes in the United States through his philanthropy. 14

OAFA also reported a $4.7 million transfer from the Our American Future Foundation that same year. Together, those two contributions made up the bulk of OAFA’s $12.6 million in revenue for 2024. 4

Leadership

Kathleen “Katie” Nee is the chief executive officer of both the Our American Future Foundation and its sister organization, Our American Future Action. She has held these roles since January 2023. 15 Public filings from the organizations list Nee working 15 hours a week for both OAFA and OAFF, however, neither organization reports a salary for Nee. 16  17
