Open Philanthropy Advisors is a charitable organization that awards grants as part of the left-of-center Open Philanthropy network of organizations which includes the Good Ventures Foundation and the Open Philanthropy Action Fund, all of which are primarily funded by Cari Tuna and Dustin Moskovitz. 1 Open Philanthropy Advisors houses the Abundance and Growth Fund, a program seeking to expand economic growth, 2 as well as the Lead Exposure Action Fund (LEAF). 3
Organization
Within the Open Philanthropy network, staff who research potential grantmaking areas “are typically employed or contracted by the Open Philanthropy 501(c)(3),” whereas staff who are employed or contracted by the Open Philanthropy LLC normally investigate, recommend, and distribute grants. 1
Programs
Open Philanthropy Advisors is a charitable organization “that houses multi-donor collaboratives like the Lead Exposure Action Fund and the Abundance and Growth Fund.” 1 The Lead Exposure Action Fund grants funds to measure and mitigate problems associated with lead exposure. 3 LEAF partners include the Alpha Epsilon Fund, Good Ventures, Livelihood Impact Fund, 10x Better Foundation, and Lucy Southworth, 3 the wife of Larry Page, the co-founder and former CEO of Google. 4 The Gates Foundation also supported LEAF with a $10 million grant in 2024 to support its objective of “accelerating progress towards a world free of lead exposure for women and children.” 5
The Abundance and Growth Fund was announced in May 2025, and Open Philanthropy announced that it would spend “at least $120 million over the next three years to accelerate economic growth and boost scientific and technological progress while lowering the cost of living.” 2
Leadership
Cari Tuna and Dustin Moskovitz 6 are the founders and primary funders of the Open Philanthropy network. 1
Cari Tuna co-founded Good Ventures in 2011 with her husband, Dustin Moskovitz. She is the foundation’s chair and oversees Open Philanthropy. Earlier in her career, Tuna was a reporter for the Wall Street Journal and she earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Yale University. 7
Dustin Moskovitz is a co-founder of Facebook and Asana. 6 Moskovitz was the CEO of Asana until March 2025 when he announced his decision to step down to focus more on philanthropic endeavors. 8
