    Background

    New Canvassing Experience (NCE) was founded in 2016 by CEO Martin Leggett and Head of Development John Jefferies. Both had previously worked in fundraising roles for Save the Children, 5  which provided NCE its first major contract. 6

    The company is a “pioneer founding member” of The Nonprofit Alliance, a network of nonprofits and commercial vendors that work alongside them, as well as its associated Foundation and political action committee (PAC). 7 1

    Activities

    The New Canvassing Experience (NCE) has offices in Austin, Philadelphia, St. Louis,  New York City, Seattle, Miami, Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta, Portland, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, San Diego, and the San Francisco Bay Area. 8 9 10

    NCE Canvassers wear attire and badges displaying the name and logo of the nonprofit client. Rather than canvassing door to door, they typically station themselves outside high-traffic businesses, such as grocery stores while soliciting recurring donations of $25 or more per month. Canvassers usually will work in pairs, each facing opposite directions along a sidewalk. 11 12

    Funding

    In 2024, the New Canvassing Experience received over $22 million in donations from outside organizations. These include the ACLU, ASPCA, ChildFund International USA, Children International, Defenders of Wildlife, Greenpeace, Humane Society Silicon Valley, International Rescue Committee, National Audubon Society, Oxfam America, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, San Diego Humane Society, Save the Children Federation, and the Nature Conservancy. 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 Additionally, the last fiscal year Doctors Without Borders USA publicly reported payment to NCE was 2020, though California records show continued business in 2021. 30 31
