Pro-Choice Minnesota, also known as NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota, is the Minnesota state affiliate of NARAL Pro-Choice America, a major proabortion advocacy group that lobbies and organizes events in support for abortion access. The group funds several programs, such as an abortion clinic escort service. 1

Partners

Pro-Choice Minnesota is partnered with UnRestrict Minnesota, a pro-abortion campaign that is a project of the New Venture Fund. It is also partnered with left-of-center groups We Choose Us, Our Justice, and ISAIAH, a nonprofit that opposes the use of law enforcement to deter crime and advocates for the decreased incarceration of criminals. 2 3

Leadership

Maggie Meyer is the executive director of Pro-Choice Minnesota. She also works as a campaign manager for UnRestrict Minnesota, one of the group’s partner organizations. 4

According to its tax returns, Laura Walvoord is the chair of the organization’s board, Alyssa Greene is vice chair, Joann Olsen is secretary, and Terra Penny is treasurer. 5

Activities

In 2022, Pro-Choice Minnesota raised $146,603 at two different fundraising events. At the Run For Your Rights 5k run, $62,110 was raised. Then the group raised $84,492 at its annual Power of Choice: Abortion is Essential gala. 5

Pro-Choice Minnesota and UnRestrict Minnesota organized a pro-abortion march and protest at the Minnesota State Capitol on July 17, 2022, where an estimated 10,000 people attended. According to a press release, Pro-Choice Minnesota called on Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) to directly invest “in community networks providing abortion funding.” 6 Later that month, Pro-Choice Minnesota and Our Justice launched a campaign together to get the city to provide direct funding for abortion access. 7

Funding

In 2022, the All Hands on Deck Network donated $100,000 to Pro-Choice Minnesota. The organization is a 501(c)(4) that directs donor money to Democratic-aligned political groups. 8

In 2022, Win Minnesota donated $20,650. 9 Win Minnesota is one of the main conduits of dollars for left-wing donors in Minnesota and has taken grants from the New Venture Fund and NEO Philanthropy. 10 11

The Minnesota State College Student Association, commonly known as LeadMN, gave $15,000 to Pro-Choice Minnesota in 2023 for voter outreach and get-out-the-vote operations. 12
