$155,0002023 Research for Education and Career Help InstituteEMpower’s 6th grant to REACH will allow to provide 1,700 young people at the margins 16 to 30 years old (half of them young women; the age group 25 to 30 are above all disabled young people) with vocational training through different models and in different locations via 3 program components. Component 1: Vocational Training at REACH training centres: 1,400 marginalized young people 16 to 30 years old, half of them young women, will get vocational training along with life and employability skills training – this time newly offered as a dual training – at REACH training centres completed by job placement and follow-up support. Component 2: Alumni-led Vocational Training: A decentralized, alumni-led training model shall be introduced with 100 young people 16 to 30 years old, half of them young women, in which former graduates who started their business or are self-employed shall serve as trainers. Component 3: Training for young people in remote areas: REACH will reach out to 200 disadvantaged youth 16 to 30 years old, half of them young women, in mountainous areas suffering from limited access to vocational training and employment opportunities. With EMpower’s flexible funding REACH will, amongst others, further strengthen its financial sustainability and build capacities of staff and management.

This new grant will focus specifically on supporting the Learning Community of 30+ NGOs, facilitated by X. This will contribute greatly to building the capacity and practice of girls centered program design in several fields, as the LC not only brings the NGOs together to build practice and share learning, but also provides funding for them to implement girls centered work. $150,0002024 Yayasan Role Bali IndonesiaEMpower’s ninth and sunset grant to the ROLE Foundation, BaliWISE program will support 200 marginalized young women 19-25 years old during the two years of the grant. The young women will complete a six-month residential training programme in either Hospitality or Digital Marketing. Both courses provide sector specific skills and incorporate life skills training coupled with an internship/ on-the-job training phase creating a pathway to formal and skilled employment. The digital marketing programme is a new addition to ROLE’s portfolio and reflects the desire to invest in sustainability and reducing risks associated with a single vocational offer. Although hospitality is the world’s largest industry and the dominant industry in Bali, it is also one of the most volatile industries. This became clear during the COVID-19 pandemic when the sector essentially shut down. Beyond, at the organizational level, ROLE will invest in institutional strengthening, mainly to enhance the financial sustainability of the organization.

This is to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for young people especially girls to meet the demand of the existing honey market and preserve natural habitats for bees. $147,5002024 Sozo Foundation TrustEMpower's 7th and final grant to the Sozo Foundation Trust will ensure both programmatic and financial sustainability beyond EMpower support. Firstly, in ensuring that 30 graduating students, including girls and young people, are provided with tailored opportunities for further education, job placements, or other meaningful pathways after they finished school, by strengthening an existing programme component through the appointment of a job placement specialist. Secondly, by strengthening fundraising capacity. Finally, Sozo will invest in the mental health capacity of staff, thereby ensuring a culture of mentally healthy and trauma informed staff supporting young people to build their own mental health.
$143,0002025 Radio WorkshopEMpower's 5th grant to Radio Workshop (previously known as Children’s Radio Foundation) will be to train and support 200 young people (12-24; 58% female) as they produce radio shows, podcast episodes and facilitate community engagements on the intersection of mental health, sexual reproductive health, gender-based violence, as well as the themes of access to higher education, and transitioning from education to work. The aims are to increase resilience and positive mental health, as well as a deeper understanding of gender-based violence, sexual rights and reproductive health and youth opportunity amongst not only the 200 Youth Reporters (working at 11 local radio stations across seven South African provinces) but also among the estimated 74,520 regular youth listeners. This grant will also provide regular access to therapeutic support to the Youth Reporters, and in-depth capacity building for the local radio station facilitators, so that they can provide support and mentoring to Youth Reporters. Lastly, the grant will provide funding to build on the network of youth reporter alumni to track the long-term impact and to cultivate a community where they can engage and support current Youth Reporters
$140,0002023 Hacey Health InitiativeEMpower's second grant to HACEY Health Initiative will expand their work to 12 new communities in Lagos and Ogun States, supporting 2,000 young girls between the ages of 12 and 19 in safe spaces to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to make informed decisions as regards their sexual and mental health, finance and personal development. The young girls will also be supported to identify and carry out social projects to improve their communities through advocacy and volunteering. The grant will also help to retain the provision of mental health support services for the young people and staff, administrative and monitoring, learning and evaluation costs.
$139,0002023 Yayasan Ekoturisme IndonesiaEMpower's 6th and sunset grant to Yayasan Ekoturisme Indonesia (East Bali Poverty Project, EBPP) will extend 192 young people aged 10-19’s (103 girls and young women and 99 boys and young men) time in school and prevent dropouts. This will be achieved through three components. Component A will enhance their knowledge and perspectives on sexual and reproductive health and rights. They will continue their youth-led advocacy to eradicate Child Early and Forced Marriages (CEFM) by changing the pararem / customary law on marriages, using the Photovoices approach. This iteration of the programme has an even more pronounced strengthening of the eco-system, where the staff and youth will have more engagement with parents. Component B will strengthen their ambition and life skills. A new online career library will also be set up. Component C will provide project-based learning opportunities and participation in Student Councils. This extension of their COVID-9 experiment focuses on creative thinking, teamwork and leadership. With EMpower’s flexible funding, EBPP will cover some of their operational costs.

The grant will also help strengthen EMPUJAR’s job placement support for programme graduates, as well as pilot a partnership with an organisation based in the province of Córdoba, which also runs a livelihoods program and will benefit from EMPUJAR’s job placement expertise.

This grant will also be used to provide mental health support networks at local schools and gain increased support from the girls’ families.

$111,8702025 Ruili Women and Children Development CenterEMpower's second grant to Ruili WCDC aims to replicate and adapt the Physiological and Reproductive Health (PRH) programme model developed in the first and current grant, implementing it in a vocational high school located in Mangshi, Dehong, Yunnan province. The work in the vocational high school will include the development of a set of vocational high school PRH handbook using a participatory approach, equipping a total of 10 teachers and 40 young people (30 females and 10 males) aged 15-19 with appropriate PRH knowledge and PRH education teaching and peer support techniques. The initial group will then in turn teach 2,800 young people (1,680 females, 1,120 males) aged 15-19 appropriate PRH knowledge over a 2-year period. EMpower's flexible funds will enhance the organisation financial stability. In compliance with G2A guidance, some flexible funds are integrated into the programme implementation fund for this grant, for strengthening the capacity of the organisation’s programme team staff to deliver more effective PRH education, as well as its monitoring and evaluation, enhance the organisation's safeguarding practices. [25.3.2024] Attention points regarding funding Ruili WCDC through Give2Asia: This grant summary reflects the initial proposed work agreed upon between Ruili WCDC and EMpower as of March 18, 2024. Following EMpower's internal approval of the grant amount and content during the week of March 25, 2024, EMpower will submit the complete proposal to Give2Asia and sign a commitment form with Give2Asia. However, it should be noted that approval of the programme by Give2Asia and the Chinese government, as outlined in the commitment form, is not guaranteed. Give2Asia will review the proposal, screen for sensitive components within the grant, and may adjust the programme work and allocation of flexible funds. EMpower will be involved in the discussion and will be informed about any changes made. It is important to note that Give2Asia imposes restrictions on EMpower's flexible funding, requiring a majority of the funds to be directed towards programme implementation. As a result, flexible funds may be reworded as programme implementation components in the final proposal approved at the levels of EMpower, Give2Asia, and the Chinese government. The entire review and approval process at these multiple levels will occur from March 2024 to mid-September 2024. [23.8.2024] The grant is approved by the Chinese government and G2A and no changes in the proposal are required. The grant is ready for EMpower to approve
