The David Horowitz Freedom Center (DHFC, formerly the Center for the Study of Popular Culture) is a right-of-center nonprofit organization that seeks to protect foundational American values from the radical left and radical Islamism. 1

DHFC publishes FrontPage Magazine, hosts DiscoverTheNetworks.org, and promotes an Academic Bill of Rights. Its other programs include the Wednesday Morning Club, the Individual Rights Foundation, Students for Academic Freedom, Jihad Watch, Stop K-12 Indoctrination, and Stop Campus Jew Hatred. 2

The David Horowitz Freedom Center is a former associate member of the State Policy Network, a coalition of free-market state-level policy organizations. 3

Activities

The David Horowitz Freedom Center claims that radical-left activists are working to destroy American values on college campuses. DHFC employs research and analysis to provide materials and insight on its own family of websites and in the media, in support of activism on campus, and as part of the national political conversation. DHFC has promoted an Academic Bill of Rights since 2003 to protect academic freedom and support intellectual diversity. DHFC’s Stop Campus Jew Hatred program intends to raise student awareness about and defend U.S campuses from pro-terrorist propaganda. 4

FrontPage Magazine is an online conservative political website. In addition to regularly published articles, it features The Point, a daily blog by Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at DHFC, whose writing focuses on the radical left and Islamic terrorism; The Glazov Gang, a weekly conservative broadcast talk show hosted by Jamie Glazov, focused on current events and opinions in the U.S. and abroad; and podcasts offering analysis, solutions, and interviews focused on sociopolitical issues and America’s culture wars. 5

The David Horowitz Freedom Center launched DiscoverTheNetworks.org in 2005 in order to provide a public database of the prominent groups and individuals of the Left, with a focus on connections amongst people and organizations. The site intends to catalog the Left’s agenda, and expose what it claims is the Left’s institutional hold on American culture and politics. 6

Funding

The David Horowitz Freedom Center is funded by donations from individuals, foundations, and businesses. While DHFC does not disclose its donors, tax filings confirm donations from the Snider Foundation ($235,000 in 2019), 7 the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation ($150,000 in 2020), 8 and the Sarah Scaife Foundation ($150,000 in 2020). 9
