Background
The Combat Hate Foundation operates the Combat Antisemitism Movement, which describes itself as a movement of individuals and organizations across all religions and faiths united to combat antisemitism. 1
The Combat Antisemitism Movement was founded by Midwest oil and gas magnate and Republican Party donor Adam Beren. 2
The Combat Hate Foundation says it educates the public to combat hate crimes and unites individuals and organizations of all faiths to end antisemitism and other forms of intolerance. 4 The organization claims its ultimate goal is to combat ate crime trends by educating the public to realize that “hate” hurts both the victim and the community. 5
The Combat Hate Foundation is located in Moundridge, Kansas. 6
In December 2024, the Combat Hate Foundation covered the cost for travel, meals, and accommodations for the 2024 Mayors Summit Against Antisemitism in Beverly Hills, California. The mayors’ summit has been an annual event. 3
Combat Antisemitism Movement
The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) is a coalition of about 700 organizations opposed to antisemitism. 7
It has called out lawmakers on both sides, including Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who suggested money from Jewish donors bought U.S. political support for Israel, and against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who suggested the Rothschild banking family was to blame for wildfires. 6
CAM has advocated that governments adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism. 8 The IHRA definition is accepted by many national and local governments around the world, including 32 U.S. states. 9
The Iranian government-funded PressTV targeted the Combat Antisemitism Movement and its parent organization the Combat Hate Foundation with a propaganda segment claiming to “unmask” the groups as a global network of the “Zionist regime,” an Iranian government slur referring to the State of Israel. The outlet’s English language program “Palestine Declassified” asserted the Combat Hate Foundation is run by the Israeli Diaspora Affairs Ministry. Sacha Roytman Dratwa, the CEO of the Combat Antisemitism Movement, said: “We wear this as a badge of honor because it demonstrates we are on the right track in exposing Iran and its proxies around the world.” 10
In February 2023, Combat Antisemitism Movement and the Network Contagion Research Institute released a study alleging that antisemitic posts on Twitter had surged since Elon Musk bought the social media platform. It noted an increase in references to “Soros” and “Globalists,” which the organization said have antisemitic connotations. It also noted a “horseshoe effect,” with rising comments from white nationalist Nick Fuentes and those in his orbit, as well as white supremacists, Black Hebrew Israelites, and Islamists, making anti-Jewish comments on Twitter. 11
In June 2023, several left-of-center Jewish organizations left CAM after it ran a three-minute video criticizing “woke antisemitism.” 8
Adam E. Beren
Adam E. Beren, owner and president of the oil and gas exploration and production firm Berexco LLC, did not initially acknowledge his role in forming the Combat Hate Foundation and the Combat Antisemitism Movement, according to the left-of-center Jewish publication Forward. 12
Beren’s family foundation, the Beren Sea Foundation, has been a major donor to the Combat Hate Foundation. 6 The Combat Hate Foundation was established in 2019 and registered to Donna Stucky, chief financial officer of Beren’s oil company Berexco. 6
Beren has been a Republican Party donor, and gave $312,500 to a pro-Donald Trump PAC shortly before the 2016 election and $1.1 million to the Republican National Committee. Then-President Donald Trump appointed Beren to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council in 2019. 6
The 2019 filing with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) had only Stucky’s name and the address of a house she owns in Moundridge. Stucky is also listed as the record-keeper for the Adam E. Beren Foundation. 6
In December 2019, the left-wing blog Jewish Worker posted that Adam Beren and Berexco were tied to the Combat Hate Foundation. The editor of Jewish Worker told Forward that Twitter forced him to remove the tweets about the topic because it violated rules “against posting private information.” 6
