Asian Services in Action, Inc. (ASIA) is an Ohio-based nonprofit provider of personal services including health care, legal services, and academic mentoring focused on Asian-American communities. 1 It also engages in community engagement advocacy. 2
Tax records for fiscal year ending June 2020 show that ASIA received $2,823,284 in government grants 3 from agencies such as the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) , U.S. Department of Treasury, and the U.S. Department of Human and Health Services (HHS). 4 5
Background
Asian Services in Action provides services such as health care, mental health services, family services, interpreting and translation services, legal services, vocational services, and civic participation training. 6
The group is primarily supported through local, state, and federal government grants, foundation and nonprofit grants, donor contributions, and program service fees. 7
Advocacy Activities
In 2013, Asian Services in Action urged U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and Congress to lower the naturalization fee. 8
In 2013, ASIA was one of 17 organizations that partnered with Asian Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF), which is an organization that advocates for government-controlled health care, to urge HHS to translate the application form into at least 15 languages for the open enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act (ACA). 9
In 2019, ASIA issued a press release condemning the Trump administration for publishing in the Federal Register the final rule on the Public Charge Rule, which would deny immigration eligibility for foreign nationals receiving a broad list of public benefits, stating this is “expected to impact 10.3 million immigrants obtaining legal status in the U.S.” 10
Programs
Asian Services in Action operates eight program areas. 11 The International Community Health Center (ICHC) provides healthcare to those in Cleveland and Akron. 12 Children, Youth, and Family Services provides academics and parental support. 13 Aging and Adult Service provides services for those over 60 years of age. 14 Interpretation and Translation Services provides a variety of multilingual services across Northeast Ohio. 15 Legal Services provides legal services across Ohio to immigrants and refugees. 16 Ahimsa provides services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. 17 Sustainability Services provides opportunities for clients to become self-sufficient. 18 Community Engagement serves as a resource for community and civic engagement. 19

Asian Services in Action’s website lists 125 partners comprised of entities such as schools, farms, food banks, courts, churches, libraries, banks, lawyers, health services, shelters, student associations, Boy and Girl Scouts, and foundations. 19 5
