The Ark Foundation is a grantmaking organization based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, financed and operated by the Dant Family. The Ark Foundation has provided funding to left-of-center organizations including the environmentalist group Center for Biological Diversity and the pro-abortion-access National Network of Abortion Funds. 1
Activity
In 2023, the Ark Foundation contributed over $115,000 towards left-of-center organizations including the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice, the Center for Biological Diversity, Defenders of Wildlife, Earthjustice, Humanity and Inclusion, Reunity Resources, the National Network of Abortion Funds, and Partnership with Native Americans. 1
The Ark Foundation has also provided grants to immigration legal advocacy group Santa Fe Dreamers Project, 2 and in 2009, Ark Foundation contributed to the Santa Fe Conservation Trust. 3
Leadership
The Ark Foundation was founded and operated by the Dant family. As of 2023, all five of its trustees were members of the Dant family: Jack, Rebecca, Deborah, Richard, and Dahlia Dant. According to its 2023 tax forms, none of the trustees listed drew a salary from the foundation. 1
A 2007 obituary for Mary Banks Dant listed her as the mother of trustees Deborah, Rebecca, and Richard Dant while Jack and Dahlia were listed as siblings of the next generation. Mary’s obituary also requested donations to the Japanese Garden Society of Oregon as well as the Ark Foundation. 4
Mary’s husband, Jack Dant, died in 1998. Jack married Mary in 1941, and after serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II, Jack became the owner and president of States Steamship Co. Jack retired in 1984. 5

According to its 2023 990 form, the Ark Foundation reported revenue of $64,484, $147,578 in expenses, and $1,681,616 in total assets. 1
