Leadership

Jeffrey Soros started out as an actor, bartender, and script reader early in his career. 5 He worked for independent production companies, including Lightyear Entertainment, which made workout videos featuring liberal activist actress Jane Fonda. 6 Soros became a producer and financier around 2010. 7

Soros is the president of his parents’ nonprofit, the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans. 8 That nonprofit pays for college educations for 30 young immigrants and children of immigrants. 9

Soros has a history of making political donations to Democratic causes. He gave $10,000 in 2021 10 to Southpaw PAC, which OpenSecrets reported gave $7,500 to federal Democratic candidates and no money to Republicans during the 2021-22 election cycle. 11 Soros gave $2,800 in 2020 to the Biden For President campaign 12 and $2,800 in 2019 to the Kamala Harris For The People campaign. 13

Soros is trustee emeritus and former chair of the Creative Capital Foundation, 14 a nonprofit grantmaking organization that funds artists. 15

Simon Horsman is the co-CEO of the Los Angeles Media Fund. 16 He was a lawyer in California and the United Kingdom for more than 25 years and represented some of the largest media companies in the world. 17 Horsman was the vice president and general counsel of PriceGrabber and was involved in the sale of the company for $485 million. 18 Horsman made a $500 political donation to Obama for America in 2008. 19

Background

The Los Angeles Media Fund was started in 2014 by Jeffrey Soros and Horsman. 20 Soros said they quickly realized the movie industry was undergoing a transformation to streaming. 21 In September 2022, Soros told the Los Angeles Times that he and Horsman had invested more than $50 million in projects. 22

Professional Sports

Beyond Athlete Management

The Los Angeles Media Fund created a sports management company that represents dozens of professional athletes, mostly from the NBA and NFL. 23 Beyond Athlete Management was created in October 2018 when Los Angeles Media Fund teamed up with sports agents Daniel Poneman, E.J. Kusnyer, Jelani Floyd and Mike Naiditch. 24

Los Angeles Lakers Documentary

The Los Angeles Media Fund produced a documentary on the history of the Los Angeles Lakers called Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers. 25 The Los Angeles Times called it the Los Angeles Media Fund’s “biggest project yet.” 26 The documentary was 10 episodes and aired on Hulu. 27

Everton FC Interest

The Los Angeles Media Fund’s Global Ventures Corporation held preliminary talks with the English Everton FC soccer club about purchasing the team in October 2022. 28

The Miami-based investment firm 777 Partners reached a deal in September 2023 to buy the club, which plays in the Premier League as of the 2023-24 season. 29
