Life First PC was a Florida political committee that opposed Florida Amendment 4, the Right to Abortion Initiative, in the November 2024 elections. 1 Life First PC was registered with the state of Florida on June 24, 2024 and disbanded on November 12, 2024. 2
Other organizations that opposed Florida Amendment 4 include Florida Voters Against Extremism, Keep Florida Pro Life, Do No Harm Florida, and the Florida Freedom Fund. 1
Amendment 4 needed 60% of the vote to be approved. It failed to achieve the supermajority threshold and was not adopted into Florida law. 3
Activities
According to Life First PC chair Eric Robinson, the political committee was established to push back against “the radicalization of the abortion industry” and to protect the right to life. Robinson claimed that Florida Amendment 4 would challenge the basic right to life by allowing later-term abortions. 4
Florida Amendment 4
Florida Amendment 4, the Right to Abortion Initiative, was an initiated constitutional amendment on the ballot in Florida on November 5, 2024. The initiative was sponsored by Floridians Protecting Freedom, a coalition campaign whose partners included left-of-center groups like the ACLU of Florida, Florida Rising, Women’s Voices of Southwest Florida, the Florida Women’s Freedom Coalition, SEIU 1199 Florida, the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates, and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Proponents of Amendment 4 claimed that Florida’s six-week abortion ban had serious negative impacts on women and that an “overwhelming majority” of Floridians support limiting government interference with abortion decisions. 5
If passed, Florida Amendment 4 would have enshrined in the Florida state constitution the right to an abortion “before viability” or as deemed medically necessary by a healthcare provider to “protect the patient’s health.” The initiative, however, would not have impacted the existing constitutional provision that would allow for a law requiring that parents be notified before a minor can receive an abortion. 3
Amendment 4 needed 60% of the vote to be approved. It received over 6.07 million votes in favor of its passage (57.17%) while receiving nearly 4.55 million votes against its passage (42.83%) and was defeated. 3
Funding
Life First PC was funded primarily by small donations from individual donors ranging from $5 to $300. In total, Life First PC raised $3,799 in monetary donations. The largest donation to Life First PC came as an in-kind donation from NextGenP LLC, a media services company based in Chandler, Arizona, that provided $6,749.29 worth of texting services. 6
As of August 30, 2024, opposition to Amendment 4, which, in addition to Life First PC, included Florida Voters Against Extremism, Keep Florida Pro Life, Do No Harm Florida, and the Florida Freedom Fund, raised $5.07 million in cash donations. The largest of these donations came from Conservatives for Principled Leadership ($1.05 million) and Floridians for Economic Leadership ($1 million). 1
