Janet Maughan is a left-of-center advocacy-philanthropic executive currently working as executive director of the Passport Foundation. She previously worked for both the Rockefeller Foundation and the Ford Foundation and is a board member for Earthjustice.
Janet Maughan is the executive director of the Passport Foundation, a position she has held since 2008. The Passport Foundation is a nonprofit arm tied to the San Francisco, California-based hedge fund Passport Capital. 
The Passport Foundation is a liberal grantmaking organization founded by John H. Burbank III and his wife Alison Carlson that focuses on environmental causes and other left-progressive economic and social causes. 
Maughan also sits on the board of trustees for Earthjustice, a leftwing environmental legal group.  A resident of Oakland, Maughan founded Oakland Neighbors Inspiring Trust, an organization working to increase racial understanding. 
Maughan has done philanthropic work that focused on environmental issues, as well as public health and poverty. 
Maughan worked as a program officer for the Ford Foundation from 1987 through 1994.  While at the Ford Foundation, she worked in the Rural Poverty and Resources program. It is in this position where she started the foundation’s environmental and climate work.
