Arlie Schardt was a journalist, Democratic political operative, and environmentalist activist. He served as a spokesman for then-U.S. Senator Al Gore‘s 1988 campaign for President, covered the 1960s Civil Rights Movement, and worked for the Environmental Defense Fund, the American Civil Liberties Union, Environmental Media Services, and Friends of the Earth. He died in May 2020.¹
