Workers World is the official newspaper of the Workers World Party (WWP), a Marxist-Leninist communist party based in the United States. Workers World was first published in 1959 and took inspiration from Vladimir Lenin’s writings that called for the creation and dissemination of revolutionary newspapers in Russia. 1 WW Publishers, Inc. publishes the Workers World newspaper, and the group publishes other communist books and pamphlets. 2 3
Editorial Positions
Workers World publishes articles from a left-wing, Marxist-Leninist perspective. In January 2026, the newspaper published an op-ed that expressed support for Hamas against the Trump administration’s proposal to establish a “Board of Peace” to administer the Palestinian territory of Gaza. Workers World referred to the proposal as an extension of the “Zionist occupation government” and declared at the end of the editorial, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!,” a slogan calling for the end of Israel. 4
In July 2025, Workers World published an opinion piece celebrating the anniversary of the communist attack on the Moncada garrison in Santiago de Cuba, a key event in Fidel Castro’s Cuban Revolution. 5
In September 2025, Workers World opposed U.S. Congressional efforts to designate October 14 as a National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk, whom the paper referred to as an “ultraright winger.” The editorial also called the “Star Spangled Banner” “racist” and suggested that George Floyd should be remembered instead of Kirk. 6
Political Candidate Endorsements
Throughout its history, Workers World and the Workers World Party have endorsed several candidates for political office in the United States. In 1984, Workers World endorsed the presidential campaign of Jesse Jackson. 7 In 1996 and 2000, Workers World endorsed Monica Morehead, the newspaper’s then-editor, for president. 8
In 2004, the WWP and its newspaper endorsed John Parker for president. 8 In 2008, Workers World and the WWP did not nominate a separate WWP candidate but rather endorsed Cynthia McKinney’s Green Party candidacy. 9 In 2016, Workers World and the WWP again endorsed Monica Morehead for president. 8
Workers World and the WWP did not endorse any candidates in the 2020 and 2024 elections. 10
Workers World Party
The Workers World Party describes itself as a “Marxist-Leninist political party” dedicated to starting and fighting for a “socialist revolution in the United States and around the world.” 11 The WWP publishes Workers World and uses the newspaper as a forum to publish its radical-left political agenda. 12
WWP advocates for the Black Lives Matter movement, abolishing the police, abolishing capitalism, and releasing convicted murdered and former Black Panther Party activist Mumia Abu-Jamal. The WWP supports the critical race theory concept of anti-racism, universal abortion access, and environmentalism, and has also called for the shutdown of the U.S. Department of Defense. In the 1960s, the WWP organized support for the release of radical-left activist Angela Davis and worked with radical-left groups the Weather Underground and the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). 13 14 15 11
