The Palestine Project is a short essay and news analysis forum run through the social media and blog website Medium. 1 The Palestine Project is a pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel group that advocates for the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement, an international campaign to delegitimize the State of Israel by isolating the country economically through consumer boycotts, business and government withdrawal of investment, and legal sanctions. 2

The Palestine Project argues that Israel’s response to the October 7, 2023 Hamas terrorist attack and the ensuing conflict constituted genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. 3 It also posted a graphic to its Facebook account that claims to depict the armed Palestinian takeover of Israeli territory. 4

Notable Articles

In the articles it has published, the Palestine Project has maintained the position that Israel is committing genocide against Palestine and ethnically cleansing Gaza. On July 22, 2024, the Palestine Project posted an article on its website claiming that “genocide” was the appropriate term for Israel’s response to the Hamas terrorist attack. It argues that the only reason Israel has not been convicted of genocide is because of the “identity of the murderers.” 5

Another article published by the Palestine Project on August 29, 2024 argued that Israel is ethnically cleansing the West Bank. 6 The article suggested that Israel’s current conflict against Hamas will create the third Nakba, or mass displacement of Palestinians, a reference to the effects of the 1948 Arab-Israeli war which displaced nearly 750,000 Palestinians. 7

Social Media Presence

The Palestine Project has a significant following on Facebook, with over 113,000 followers. The account posts photos, videos, and articles that express a pro-Palestinian perspective regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict that began in October 2023. 8

On October 7, 2023, the day of the Hamas terrorist attacks against Israel, the Palestine Project posted an image of a painting called “The Bulldozer” by Palestinian artist Beesan Arafat, which depicts a Palestinian bulldozer crashing through the Israel-Gaza border defenses. The image included a Diana Buttu quote that says, “If I were the leader of a country, I certainly wouldn’t be taking security advice or buying security intelligence from Israel.” Buttu is a former spokeswoman for the Palestine Liberation Organization, an umbrella organization for several Palestinian groups that has been recognized as the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people in international negotiations and institutions. 9 10

On August 26, 2022, the Palestine Project Facebook account posted a Haaretz article accusing Evangelical Christians of stealing Palestinian land and removing Palestinians from their land by planting trees in the West Bank. The tree-planting was part of the “Greening Israel Project.” The Palestine Project says this initiative intended to remove Palestinians from their land. 11

The Palestine Project also has an X (formerly Twitter) following of nearly 3,000. The account posts pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel articles, graphics, and images. 12 On May 5, 2024, the Palestine Project posted a quote from professor Amos Goldberg, a Holocaust scholar at the Hebrew University, who argues that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza. 13 On September 1, 2024, the account reposted an article published by New Arab that accuses “Western media” of “helping hide the bodies” of what it calls the victims of genocide in Gaza. 14
