The Online Hate Task Force (OHTF) is a Brussels-based interfaith group that monitors online content deemed to be hateful and violent, specifically items that incite violence against religious organizations. OHTF works with social media organizations including Facebook and YouTube, claiming to have 100,000 volunteers local and international to monitor online content. 1

Activities

The Online Hate Task Force (OHTF) claims to monitor, identify, and report online media content it deems to be hateful and violent, specifically what it believes to incite violence against religious groups and communities such as antisemitic and Islamophobic content. As of 2024, OHTF claims to have identified roughly 184,000 online posts, over 55,000 videos, and more than 4,000 online accounts shut down for proliferating hateful and violent content. 1

OHTF has previously worked with the Australian-based Online Hate Prevention Institute (OHPI) to produce several reports tracking increased occurrence of offensive and hateful online posts. These include “Online Antisemitism After 7 October 2023,” and “Online Anti-Muslim Hate and Racism Against Palestinians and Arabs October 2023 – February 2024.” 1 These reports were partially funded by grants from the Australian government’s Safe and Together Community Grants Program. 2

According to their “Online Antisemitism After 7 October 2023” report, OHTA and OHPI claimed that online antisemitic content increased following the October 7, 2023 Hamas terror attacks against the State of Israel. It further claimed that since the attacks, anti-Israeli views and posts promoting violent content have become more prominent on, “mainstream social media platforms.” 3

According to their “Online Anti-Muslim Hate and Racism Against Palestinians and Arabs October 2023 – February 2024” report, OHTA and OHPI have claimed to observe a rise in Islamophobic content between October 2023 and February 2024. They noted a rise in such content on mainstream social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube. 2

Funding

According to its website, the American Friends of Mitzpe Yeriho, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization, accepts donations to support the Online Hate Task Force. 4
