Activities and Funding

The Jurvetson Family Foundation espouses the view that tyranny is the root cause of poverty, human rights violations, and war. The foundation supports individuals, organizations, policy makers, and research efforts that it has identified as critical to address issues including mental health, veterans’ suicide, protecting human rights, and addressing climate change. The foundation also financially supports organizations, groups, and dissidents that fight dictatorships and authoritarian regimes. 11 The Jurvetson Family Foundation is a supporter of the Human Rights Foundation, which supports prisoners of conscience and promotes democracy worldwide. 12

The Jurvetson Family Foundation also funds organizations that combat climate change. In these efforts, the foundation supports the left-of-center Salk Institute for Biological Studies’ Harnessing Plants Initiative to sequester carbon as well as the Good Food Institute which works to create plant-based and synthetic meat. 13

The Jurvetson Family Foundation also supports organizations addressing mental health, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) research, depression research, and substance abuse research. Part of this research includes MDMA (ecstasy) and psilocybin-assisted therapy, and funding to support education, “equitable access” efforts for these drugs, and delivery. The foundation supports the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), Healing Advocacy Fund, the Fireside Project, and various individual scientists involved in these endeavors. 14

The Jurvetson Family Foundation also supports Veterans Exploring Treatment Solutions (VETS) and Reason to Hope’s efforts to end veterans’ suicide, the Roland R. Griffiths Professorship Fund for psychedelic research on medical therapeutics in patients, 15 the One Acre Fund to support families facing poverty in Africa, and the B612 Foundation to map and navigate the solar system and protect Earth from asteroid impacts. 16

Funding

Jurvetson Family Foundation is the private foundation of Democratic Party-aligned venture capitalist Steve Jurvetson and his second wife, Genevieve Jurvetson. 17
