Indivisible Northville and Neighbors (INN) is the western Detroit suburban chapter for the national organization Indivisible Project. INN was formed to oppose President Donald Trump, his elected supporters, to groom and elect left-of-center candidates. It has collaborated with radical groups like Our Revolution and the Black Voters Matter Fund.
INN was founded by Democratic Party activist Lisa DiRado, who also is the president of the Northville Democratic Club. DiRado called for the removal of President Trump and all congressional leaders who voted not to certify the election of President Joe Biden, and to “stop the killing of black people by police, and provide food, health, and economic security for all.”
Indivisible Northville and Neighbors is one of over 60 Indivisible groups in the state of Michigan. It is a local chapter of the national movement spawned by the Indivisible Project. INN is one of the many Indivisible local organizations primarily founded by women to rally support against the Trump administration, Republican candidates, and to elect progressive leaders to office. The Northville wing lobbies for left-of-center interests in the western Detroit suburbs. It has 167 Facebook likes and 589 Twitter followers. The Northville Democratic Club worked with local voters to create Indivisible Northville.
INN’s initiatives included Congressional redistricting, educating and preparing candidates, and electing progressive candidates in the 2018 midterms. In 2022, the group joined 60 Democrat organizations to co-sign a letter to Senate Democrats advocating for bypassing the filibuster to ensure the passage of the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Other left-leaning groups that signed the letter included the Black Voters Matter Fund, Friends of the Earth, League of Conservation Voters, NextGen America, Our Revolution, People’s Action, and Stand Up America.
Lisa DiRado is a founder of Indivisible Northville and Neighbors and president of the Northville Democratic Club. She served as a delegate for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to the 2016 Democratic National Convention and after Clinton’s defeat, helped start INN to encourage “resistance activities, educational events, and friendship building.” DiRado also is a partner in the Liberal Leadership League, Inc.
She wrote a letter that condemned the “attempted coup on our U.S. Capitol” on January 6, 2021 and demanded then-President Trump’s removal from office, claiming there was “a direct line between white supremacy and Trump’s Republican Party.” DiRado also wrote, “We must end discrimination, stop the killing of black people by police, and provide food, health, and economic security for all.” She concluded the letter with a “call for the removal of all Senators and House Members who planned or participated in this sedition against the United States of America, including those who objected to certifying election results of the victory of President-elect Joe Biden,” which amounted to a call for the removal of eight Senators and 139 Representatives.
