The Idaho Capital Sun is an Idaho-based news organization reporting on state government, politics, and policy in Idaho. The nonprofit is a part of States Newsroom, a left-leaning coalition of state-level news outlets.

Background

The Idaho Capital Sun is a free news source covering various aspects of politics and policy in Idaho, including the economy, elections, health care, the environment, and education. 1

According to the nonprofit’s ethics webpage, it “borrows liberally from the practices embraced by the Associated Press, ProPublica, The Center for Investigative Reporting, NPR and the Washington Post.2

The non-profit is also an affiliate of States Newsroom, a left-of-center media outlet. 3 The Idaho Capital Sun emphasizes the importance of integrating diversity, equity, inclusion and justice into media. 4

Staff

Christina Lords is the editor-in-chief of the Idaho Capital Sun. 5

Clark Corbin is a senior reporter at the Idaho Capital Sun. Before joining the Capital Sun, he worked with with the Idaho Falls Post Register and Idaho Education News, covering Idaho’s legislative session from 2011 to 2020. 6

Mia Maldonado and Kyle Pfannenstiel have both been reporters for the Idaho Capital Sun since 2023. 7 8

Idaho Capital Sun uses funds donated to States Newsroom and its affiliates to support its journalistic initiatives. 9
