Every Legal Vote is a right-of-center election integrity group that advocates for tighter election security regulations.
The group explicitly condemned the actions of Capitol rioters on January 6, 2021 and supports the peaceful transfer of political power, but nevertheless asserts that the 2020 presidential election had enough election security concerns to warrant a campaign to prevent election fraud in the future. 1
Background
Every Legal Vote advocates for the security and integrity of America’s elections. A statement on its website justifies its concerns by citing changes in election procedures and voting irregularities in the 2020 presidential election that were introduced in the name of stopping the spread of COVID-19. 2 3
Statement
As of October 2022, Every Legal Vote’s website consisted of statements supporting the need for election integrity. It thanked its viewers for “taking 80,000,000 actions in support of honest elections.” Accompany this was a published statement in the form of a PDF document entitled “Statement on the Need for Election Integrity to Heal America.” 4
The document condemned the Capitol riots of January 6, 2021 as a “lawless breaching of our nation’s Capitol,” calling the instigators “a violent contingent of protests” that “caused the event to degenerate into tragedy.” It affirmed the U.S. Constitution and declared itself opposed to any attempts to thwart the Constitutional process. 5
Nevertheless, the group argued that this “tragedy” ought not to obscure the ongoing importance of election integrity efforts. It asserted that “serious issues” were raised by the 2020 presidential election and the actions of state legislatures in the election process, citing Georgetown University law professor and frequent Fox News guest Jonathan Turley on the inadequacies of courts’ reasoning in their dismissal of cases on alleged voter fraud. 6 7
Every Legal Vote called on state legislators to review the evidence of election fraud and the hastily implemented electoral procedures such as mass vote-by-mail and other unprecedented voting methods adopted in the wake of COVID-19 8 9 that caused controversy and division. The statement ended with a call to count “every legal vote” in the name of election integrity and national “healing.” 10
